The electric bidet
reply
I've used a bidet one time in my entire life. I just happened to have to shit at a place that just happened to have one.
I have to tell you, it's definitely the cleanest I've ever felt after a shit, and as a truck driver, I appreciate that more than you think.
I really should get one. They make ones that you can just mount to the inside of your toilet, but I'm lazy.
reply
That's what we have. You mount it right on your bowl. Look, cell phones and the internet are great and all that, but we're talking about a huge step in human advancement.

gotta be the internet. Maybe nuclear weapons.
I would have said internal combustion engine/car, but that would be outside of your time range. So internet or nukes, even though both of them are gradual processes of iteration rather than in-the-moment innovations.
reply
God bless Al Gore, I think he invented both of them.

This is a more than 100 years but the chlorination of water has to be in the top ten!
So many people used to die from drinking dirty water. Now it is mostly a poverty issue as to why humans don’t have access to clean water
reply
It's amazing how much of a difference clean drinking water makes. People take it for granted now, but it is such a basic thing, and not having it has to be an incredible burden.

I'm setting off tomorrow on a 5 day canoeing trip. There was definitely a lot of thought and planning around how to get potable water for drinking, cooking, cleaning up, etc. over the course of the trip for 15 people. It really makes you appreciate everyday access to clean water from the tap.

It's because we still think of the last 100 years as 1900 to 2000 haha

I know right? That has ro be pretty high in the list.

We're still within a hundred years of sliced bread, so I'll go with that one.

integrated circuit
reply
Yea, I guess those are pretty important! A lot of the inventions in technology over that period were only possible because of integrated circuits.

Has to be the internet. It completely changed how we communicate, learn, work, and even think. It connected the world in ways people never imagined, gave everyone access to endless information, and created entire new industries. Nothing else has had the same level of impact on daily life.
