This debacle sort of typifies HN at all levels. Its a multifaceted / multilayered situation
  • A group of rich western techies who have various luxury beliefs about how the goods they consume from the sweatshops should be manufactured.
  • Nonetheless, they will still continue purchasing and consuming these goods. The cheaper the better.
  • Meanwhile they hate Trump and dislike the notion of restricting immigration and imposing tariffs in order to rebuild US manufacturing base
  • Yet, if they are reminded at any time how the goods they consume are actually manufactured or what the CO2 impact is of those sweatshops, they become outraged
  • The owners of YCombinator are startup junkies, who love "saving the world" thru full-stack Rust solutions, have found a promising startup.
  • Yet the owners of Ycombinator also need to virtual signal and feign outrage once the luxury beliefs of their readers come into conflict with their business model
  • Meanwhile a group of Indian techs who are trying to implement solutions for businesses in their area are caught in the cross-hairs and are thoroughly confused about the mess they find themselves in
Spot on analysis. I refrained from opinionating in my original past as I didn't have much of the background.
