Notice the comically bad acting in the video...
Will SN ever have to take down a viral post?

This debacle sort of typifies HN at all levels. Its a multifaceted / multilayered situation
  • A group of rich western techies who have various luxury beliefs about how the goods they consume from the sweatshops should be manufactured.
  • Nonetheless, they will still continue purchasing and consuming these goods. The cheaper the better.
  • Meanwhile they hate Trump and dislike the notion of restricting immigration and imposing tariffs in order to rebuild US manufacturing base
  • Yet, if they are reminded at any time how the goods they consume are actually manufactured or what the CO2 impact is of those sweatshops, they become outraged
  • The owners of YCombinator are startup junkies, who love "saving the world" thru full-stack Rust solutions, have found a promising startup.
  • Yet the owners of Ycombinator also need to virtual signal and feign outrage once the luxury beliefs of their readers come into conflict with their business model
  • Meanwhile a group of Indian techs who are trying to implement solutions for businesses in their area are caught in the cross-hairs and are thoroughly confused about the mess they find themselves in

Spot on analysis. I refrained from opinionating in my original past as I didn't have much of the background.

Only slightly related, does anyone know what happened to the webshit weekly author?

Thanks for reminding me of that!

I did not know webshit weekly, but it looks just like my kind of humor.
Bureaucrats continue to fuck everything up for everyone. Hackernews points out that Google is full of this particular brand of bureaucrat, which Hackernews interprets as meaning that everyone on Earth is an incompetent moron, except Hackernews, who has all the answers. Many of those Hackernews work at Google, where they explain that they're much better at interviewing than anyone else at Google. Nobody attempts to determine whether any of these superior interviewers are in fact the same people the rest of Hackernews is bitching about.

Same, what a shame that it seems to be last updated in 2021

The most damning part about this is the YC group partner who okay'ed the release of that video. The founders are clearly from India and don't necessarily have cultural context but the YC group partners sure as hell should have. Then to take the video down is just next level disappointing.

Taking down a viral post goes against the ethos of SN, so I sure hope not!
