I've never had broken legs or ankles. That sounds quite painful.

This also has to do with heavily sprained ankles.
Some people are more prone to rolling them than others.

I've had plenty of sprains. I usually put some athletic wrap or a soft brace on and keep walking around.

When I was 12, I broke my left ankle and had a cast up to my hip for 6 weeks after surgery. Strangely that left leg is stronger and more stable than my right today, probably due to a bucket handle meniscus tear in my right knee and all my right ankle sprains.
I often wonder if I might have maintained my speed had I not become so lopsided after that injury. Or maybe if it had been rehabbed properly.
