I stand by my non-stance that the cowboy credit thing is OK. Using services like MiniBits and CoinOS is OK and using your own node is OK. There are tradeoffs of each. I've been using these eCash hosted / custodial services for over a month now. They work fine most of the time. NWC works most of the time but there are growing pains with the volume of small transactions hitting these services.

I'm gonna try turning it all off for a week starting today. Just use CCs. I mean its kinda like old school SN right?

Next I'd like to really make an effort to go the other way and use a self sovereign stack. I've tried that before with SN and it didn't work for me. Pretty sure I was just too busy and didn't have time to work out the kinks in my setup.

I think cowboy credits are the easiest option by far. No issues really except you aren't dealing with sats. It doesn't feel the same and it isn't the same. I'm wondering how it will hit me as I use them though.

for your self-custodial setup: running and LND node on start9, using albyhub service...its working well for me to have send/receive setup using NWC. I have a private channel open with Stacker News which I think helps. It's pretty rare that a send payment fails for me.

I tried setting up my SN wallet with my Start9 node with NWC. Couldn't get it working. I posted this a while back: #758499

In the comments there, Alby told me NWC isn't supported anymore. So, I downloaded Alby Hub for my node and set that up.

Still can't get it to work with SN. Ugh...

No, I should do that. Do you have their public key handy?

I just went and checked again.... and I guess I did successfully get my node working with SN.... for receives. It's the spend side that I can't seem to set up.

Also, if my node is receiving zaps..... then why does my wallet balance in SN increase also?? (not talking CC's)

Edit: I guess it increases due to daily rewards from SN, and not zaps....?

The green number in the top-right corner is your CC + reward sats balance. If it increases during the day, you're receiving CCs.

You will always receive CCs from stackers who don't have attached a wallet.

make sure you set:

"receive credits for zaps and deposits below" = 0 in settings

I've never been able to get SN and Alby Hub to connect on my node. Not sure why. Like I said, I haven't had the time to dive into figuring it out but plan on it

Personally, I don't see a real big issue with CC's. The only difference to me is i zap a bit more heavily when I have a buch if CC's building up, especially when I find someone without a wallet.

I have been using it since the beginning. I havent had any issues. The sats come from the reward pool. So its not like you never get sats. You could also set your sat minimun higher, so only larger zaps make it to your wallet.

lol, that's funny.

You know I have never been rich or considered myself rich... but at the same time I think I've front-run the wealthy on bitcoin... so maybe I need to adjust my thinking. Poverty mindset is something I had some exposure to growing up and I still see it everywhere. I've tried to remove that but maybe I still have a bit of it...

Actually I'll do even better. I'll do 1:1 of what i receive so 70% because of SN fees. So long as you zap them to me on my territory AskSN.

So for every 1k CC you zap me over there I'll send you 700 sats via lighting. Just comment on one of my posts if your interested, I make 2 per day.

I guess the perspective from which you look at it will give a different result.

Personally, I like (Cc), I use them, and their use leads me to get some SATS on occasion.

So for my part, I consider it to be fine.
