I guess they have an autonomy clause going in their modern constitution. It allows them to separate from the kingdom of Denmark. Perhaps being a republic would be a better alternative, then they could join the US at their own will and not the will of the King of Denmark. Who needs kings, anyway.

It's pretty funny to think of the 50k people of Greenland as a Republic. It's more like a small town + baren wasteland than anything else.

I think they could be a republic along the lines of the Massachusetts Colony and its town hall meetings. Just think, every citizen would, explicitly be heard by the whole government if they wanted to be heard. They could probably have the whole government sitting in on the meeting and every concerned citizen speaking to them. A committee of the whole!!
