I remember listening to Doug Casey talk about trying to pitch various 3rd world leaders on radical market reforms ("You could be the next Hong Kong.").
He said it's not usually that hard to get the president (or whatever) on board, but all the people underneath the president push back. That's where the real parasites live and they know they can't survive in an honest market.
Yes, that is the problem with every state apparatus. The parasites will push back every time they think their bull is about to be gored. They love their something for nothing lifestyles and would have to change under a free market system. I was in India before they started going more towards a free market. It seemed like everything was price controlled in the markets. Of course, as a foreigner, I paid the special foreigner’s price on most things unless I felt like haggling.
