I've definitely seen conflicting opinions the type of people who should be invited to SN. So is it better to invite more people and worry about teaching them when they get here, or very specific people only that would fit in with the existing culture? There's probably even people who would argue that bitcoin adoption itself will naturally drive people here without searching them out.
I personally struggle with my desire to help grow SN vs the realization that I could potentially do more harm than good so what are your opinions?
I especially would like to hear from the people who have the most skin in the game like @k00b and @ek

Use only specific personalized invitation links. This way YOU are the only one responsible for the new content.

I think the SN needs people, not this or that type. Time will filter them out!

After you have been here a while, you will see this topic come up often. It is divided between getting many people and getting quality people.

People suck! 🤣🤣🤣

The main issue with quantity over quality is that SN is so small right now.
More and more, I feel like improving our retention rate of quality stackers is more important than increasing our rate of attracting new stackers. Lots of interesting people have come through and then drifted off.
reply
Chicken or the egg? You need more quality content to keep retention, and more retention to create quality content...
I certainly wouldn't have been considered a quality stacker when I joined, and I'm positive some people still don't think so.
reply
I think people get driven off for more personality related reasons than lack of content, but I've never been able to pin down what separates stackers from non-stackers.
Btw, once you've had a top post of the week and been discussed on SNL, no one can say you aren't a quality stacker.

2 for 2 baby! He can't keep getting away with it! 😎
On a more serious note, I honestly want SN to be successful long term, and I'm very willing to put in time off site to do it. I just need to figure out what that looks like.

I actually think that CC may cause some friction with new users, but apparently tax laws make it impossible to leave it the way it was so I don't have a good answer besides educating new users.

Personally, CC's have had very little effect on me.

Steady healthy growth is good. Fast growth or growth at all costs is fiat minded, IE high time preference. Most social media is high time preference, high noise to signal, and low value.
I think the best way to promote healthy growth on SN is to create good content. If there are topics you care about write about them. If there are things you want to learn ask about them. There's a lot of knowledge on this site. If there is valuable content zap it and zap it hard. Value for value.

I agree that there doesn't need to be an all out blitz to pull people in, but some promotion certainly can't hurt.
I found this place from a reddit post for instance.

SN's user base is still too small to grow organically, let alone generate sufficient revenue to sustain operations. So, SN needs to bring in more users.
That said, it's nearly impossible for the community to grow while keeping its original vibe completely intact. Change is bound to happen. We just need to tackle the challenges as we grow. On the other hand, SN's zaprank mechanism is pretty solid, so I'm not too worried about it.

Why not get everyone here? What's the problem?
reply
There are stackers that are concerned with this just becoming another version of reddit. Personally, I'm on the side of adding bodies and see what happens, but I also respect other people's opinions

It can never become another version of Reddit. It requires real money to elevate content, unlike free shit upvotes.
The value proposition of zaps curates the best above the rest.
By bringing everyone here, we can turn the misguided folks into real Stackers/Bitcoiners. I know everyone won't change, but we'll see a high percentage of conversions. SN is by far the best place to Orange pill.

The amount I've learned by being here has been pretty staggering to say the least.

That's why I say let everyone be here, welcome them, let them settle a bit and see if they learn and change.
If they do, they'll be one of us. If they don't they can be sidelined any day.
