pull down to refresh

Funny, I had the same experience. I think I tried Insomnia and IT, but couldn't get into them.
Then, a couple of decades later, a friend of mine gifted me the first book in the Dark Tower series. I read it and it sort of grabbed me, it was different... I then re-read it a few years after that and I was finally in.
I think the Dark Tower series is one of his best within his catalog. Salem's Lot was another good one that I ended up reading because of the Dark Tower series. All of them are a strange blend of sci-fi and horror.
I'm currently reading the final book in the series. It's been a long journey.
Ahhhhh……. Those long journeys are the best, though. The author has the time and space to fully develop the characters, the plot and the settings. I think series books, as long as you know what is going on in the series, are by far the best.

Agreed

I have just started reading one of a series of books, but it is the third of a trilogy and I have not read the first two. It is a bit confusing because the author is assuming that I have read the first two.

Any particular reason you started it out of order?

Yes, there is a reason. I went to a used book sale, where the books were unusually cheap and they had a good variety and bough a load of them. I knew the author from other books I had read by him, so I bough this one and several others, since hardbacks were only $2 and paperbacks only $!. I got a whole box full of them. I got about 8 by this author, all that they had! They were from three different series, I found out after researching them. So I only got partials of the several series. I know I can fill the series by going to my favorite bookstore, but I want to read what I have first to see what I would look to buy.

gotcha.

It was a gotcha, but I couldn’t resist the books when I saw them. I have to confess, it was a complete impulse buy. And to top it off, my wife was with me and she did her impulse buying, too.

😁 I don't think I've ever come out of those sales without at least one new book in hand. I'll tell myself that I won't buy one and that I must finish reading more of the ones that I already have at home. That never works!
