'If the ban on new boilers does go ahead, then anyone whose heating system has reached the end of its life will have to pay for a heat pump – currently much more expensive than a gas boiler – as a replacement.'

'The Government is putting nearly £300m into subsidies for households next year, as well as relaxing planning rules to make it quicker to install a heat pump'

Ah yes, more subsidies

Uncared for boilers can be dangerous.
I dont know the exact type of boilers used in the UK, but if it is anything similar to what l work with, yiou shiuld be careful.

boilers are pretty well cared for, only licensed techs can do anything to them and there are plenty of inspectors etc

although i would also like to hear some boiler horror stories and maintenance tips if you have them (in my house we only have water boilers, not gas), but I'm in Bulgaria

It really depends on the type of boilers.
High pressure boilers can have a lot of energy, but the older ones used in houses should be low pressure.
They can be dangerous if not checked and serviced correctly.
I know Mythbusters did an episode on one exploding, it leveled the house.

reply

i believe they are generally serviced annually in the UK and for sure if you are a landlord, by law you have to have the boiler serviced annually as part of a gas safety check

Is natural subsidised when prices go higher? Remove all subsidies and let people make sound financial decision. Heat pumps are good and economical once installed, when their cost goes down it will reach a level where people will want to make the switch

Are the houses too old to use forced air furnaces? What's with the boilers?

reply

they just want to ban gas boilers as part of the net zero war on carbon emissions. they'll be printing some money out of thin air (or stealing it via tax) to fund some studies to come up with a solution for people that cant use heat pumps for various reasons
