The Tom Brady of Stacker News is joining the ~Stacker_Sports ownership group. We'll discuss what, if anything, that means for the territory going forward.
In other territory news,
  • The CFP contest is in full swing
  • We had a winner in one cricket pool and people are dropping like flies in the other
  • New details on the USA vs "the world" competition
  • Our fantasy football league wrapped up (I wonder why @grayruby left that off the agenda)
In sports news,
  • We'll each share our Game of the Week (submit your nominations in the comments, if you like)
  • Dan Campbell is a reckless maniac. Good or bad?
  • Who are the best NFL coaches?
  • The playoff picture is pretty much set. What's left to decide in week 18?
  • We'll hit our recurring NBA segments and touch on the looming trade season
  • How's that children's hockey tournament that Canadians love so much going?
  • Ovechkin's back! Will he be able to break Gretzky's career scoring record?
In degenerate news,
Let us know what you'd like to hear about this week or what you think about any of the topics on the agenda.
Stay humble. Stack sats.

Not sure if you guys are aware, the old guys were breaking more records last night. Steph went 8/8 beyond the arc vs the 76ers last night, setting a new personal record. I believe the last time Curry was perfect beyond the arc was back in April 2024 when he went 6/6 against the Lakers, which was also his previous record. LeBron also tied Jordan's record of most number of 30+ point games; they both have 562 games with 30+ points. One thing to note is that Jordan achieved that number playing 450 fewer games than LeBron.
Oh, btw, @Undisciplined, congrats on becoming a part owner of ~Stacker_Sports! Well deserved and looking forward to see both you and GR running things around here.

I had that game on last night and vaguely recall a reference to LeBron setting a record but I wasn’t really paying attention as I was transferring some files to a new laptop I recently purchased.
Pretty incredible.
Do you think we will ever see another shooter like Steph again?
reply
To me, LeBron hitting that record actually shows how incredibly good Jordan is (not taking anything away from LeBron, he is still incredible). Jordan did it with 450 fewer games played. Assuming they play all 82 games, that's still almost 5 and a half seasons more that LeBron needed to tie Jordan's record. Also factoring in the ease of scoring and type of defense being played / allowed for the two different eras... Jordan was really one of a kind.
Do you think we will ever see another shooter like Steph again?
I won't say never, and with the way the young guys are growing up shooting 3's, I think it's more likely than not that we will have even more good shooters going forward. Also, the danger of Steph does not only lie in his shooting; he can drive, he can pass, he has a great handle, he can definitely shoot, and his off ball movement is insane! I would say Steph is more dangerous off ball than with the ball. So I think there definitely will be pure shooters that shoot as well or even better than Steph, but someone with a full package like Steph will probably not appear for quite some time.

I don't think we'll see another Steph, but more for the whole set of reasons you listed. I'd wager that we'll see as good of a pure shooter in the next generation of players.

What's going on with Jimmy Buckets?
reply
He wants out and he's going to make things unpleasant until he gets his way.

So you are saying there is a chance he is coming to the Raptors. Thank you for your honest, unbiased and completely rational perspective.
reply
Ugh. Cowboy credits again. I thought this was fixed. Haha
He said he'd play anywhere, so that presumably includes Toronto. That he hasn't been traded must mean Houston isn't interested, so I don't know which landing spot makes sense.
I missed both of those. I heard something about LeBron breaking a Jordan record and wondered what records could be left to break.
Edit: Thanks! I'm looking forward to being even more involved with SN.

If anyone has any questions about the new ownership structure. Fire away. We will cover on the pod.
I think Vikings vs Lions is the game of this upcoming week. As for last week I would have to think about that.
Let's skip the World Junior segment and just focus on Ovi. Stupid kids. Ovi is great. He is going to break the record.

@TheMorningStar clarified that Game of the Week should be a recap of our favorite games from the week, so we'll have to think of one.
We already covered Broncos vs Bengals, so I'd nominate either Commies vs Falcons or Lions vs 49ers. The Lions game might make the most sense, since we wanted to talk about Dan Campbell anyway.

There's a good debate over Rohit Sharma sitting out this final test. Also the saga between konstas and indian players should get a few minites of consideration in the pod.

I think Undisciplined should cover that since he is so knowledgeable about cricket.
