Hmmm a big list but who cares?
We can create ours.
Why not?
So, who's your favourite player at different positions?
I'm curious to learn about how do these positions relevant in the game of American Football (that's still handball or 'Snatch the ball' for me).
Offense (12 Personnel) QB Joe Burrow RB Derick Henry TE1 Brock Bowers TE2 George Kittle WR1 Puka Nacua WR2 Ja'Marr Chase LT Trent Williams LG Kevin Zeitler C Jackson Powers-Johnson RG Chris Lindstrom RT Penei Sewell
Defense (3-4 Nickel) DT Chris Jones DE Myles Garrett DE TJ Watt OLB Maxx Crosby OLB Trey Hendrickson MLB Fred Warner NCB Trent McDuffie CB Marlon Humphrey CB Pat Surtain FS Kerby Joseph SS Kyle Hamilton
Special Teams P AJ Cole K Brandon Aubrey
This was a bit tougher than I expected. I probably only had a little over half without having to look guys up. The hardest choice is which 5 skill players to choose (WR, TE, RB), because there are so many awesome players and those are the highest profile positions.
I cheated, slightly, on defense, but the NFL does the same thing with their All-Pro teams. My DE's and OLB's are basically the same position (edge rusher), but those guys are so good that you could definitely have them all out there.

Very creative. Do the Raiders play 3-4?
reply
No. There was some expectation that they would, because Patrick Graham has favored that in the past. Maybe they didn't think it was the right fit around Maxx. I imagine optimizing him is the starting point for their defensive scheme.
reply
Why QB in offense but not in defense?
There's a great difference in positions between the two set ups. I'm having difficult time to understand the whole positioning scenario in your sport. Can't we have a defensive setup with QB and RB?
reply
It's a purely offensive position: responsible for passing the ball and taking snaps.
reply
Alright. So, the positions vary in football according to gameplan. But these are so many, how do you guys even remember all of them?
reply
You get used to it pretty quickly. There are always 11 guys per team on the field.
On offense, the breakdown is 1 QB, 5 skill guys (any combination of TE's, WR's, and RB's), and 5 linemen (2 OT's, 2 OG's, and 1 C).
On defense, there are usually 4 linemen (2 DE's and 2 DT's), 3 LB's, and 4 DB's (2CB's and 2 S's).
The names mostly relate to where they tend to lineup on the field.

Seems like Cricket fielding positions. But you guys speak or write the abbreviations but we do it in the phrases like long on, long off, wicket keeper, square leg, point, gully, cow corner, silly point, deep mid wicket, cover, deep cover, third man, fine, silly mid on, extra cover, straight mid fielder.
reply
Very similar. None of those mean anything to me, but I bet they would after just a few games.
reply
Yes, I'm regularly watching highlights and while listening to the commentry I'm learning about them. I'm pretty sure that I'll better you in terms of understanding your own sport.
You're asking favorite, not best?
reply
I'm asking it for I want to learn the relevance, so it depends on you. In my case my favourite is always the best.
reply
I'll do a mix, then. These will be my favorite elite players at each position.
reply
I'm okay with that.

Now you have given me a challenge. 50 is a lot though. I suggest we do 11 on offense and 11 on defense and a punter and a kicker.
reply
Did your father finger turn on again?!
No not 50 but one for every position is enough.

Special Teams
K- Brandon Aubrey P- AJ Cole (throwing @Undisciplined a bone since I left Maxx and Brock off)
reply
Cam Heyward and Justin Jefferson are very deserving picks.
Yours is closer to what I would have if I were just picking the best players and didn't cheat with my edge rushers.
reply
You did cheat a bit but it was quite clever and creative I really couldn't find a reason to dispute it.
reply
I know Warner's great at everything, but I basically went 5 elite pass rushers and 6 elite coverage guys.
reply
I don't know that Warner will win all pro this year. He has been good but not great. He has been playing on a fractured ankle all year and Sorenson somehow has made every defensive player other than Lenoir and Winters regress. He puts guys in terrible positions constantly. 49ers have the worst 4th quarter D in the league and they were first last year. I think that's because guys are exhausted by the 4th due to always being put in situations that don't suit them.
Offense also sucking in the 4th quarter hasn't helped either.
reply
He's still my first pick at LB.
reply
Mine too. He is so good that he has his worst year and is still better than almost everyone else.
