Trying to get people who don’t watch football to watch.
They don’t get paid to perform. In fact some even pay out of pocket if the show budget is not enough.

Why not just put more football in? That seems simpler. Don't they lengthen the halftimes for these performances?

I guess they want the media hype over the halftime show. Some people like these artists for some strange reason.
