I think the reason most people don't want kids is that they feel they can't afford them and it's all downstream from a broken money system. job security in the age of constant change, social media-fuelled anxiety and more.
imo widespread travel is just a consequence of air travel becoming cheaper and more accessible along with other tech convinancnies.
people in the 70s probably would have loved to travel more, but it wasn't an option on the table.
you got married early 20s, had a job, got a house and that was what 99% of people did
Thanks for giving my meandering thoughts some serious consideration 😀
At the risk of sounding rude, I would say that Singapore is quite a prosperous nation. In absolute terms, most people ought to be able to afford kids. However, regardless of our income levels, we feel poor especially when compared to our more successful peers on the corporate leader. We also are unwilling to give up our present standard of living (which includes travelling for yuppies). So we feel that we are incapable of raising a child up to our high expectations.
I feel that life can be simple but sometimes, we complicate matters a bit too much.
How about you? Is the ability to travel important to you?
