I am working on setting up my node to work with Stacker News. I mine a small amount of Bitcoin, and stack some sats here on stacker. Almost all my lightning transactions I want to send and receive are to and from stacker News for now. I don't have a lot of Bitcoin to use to open the channels with. It looks like stacker news has a minimum of 1 million satoshis to open a channel with them. Do you know of a node I can connect with that has a minimum of 250,000 or so to start that will work well with routing to stacker news? I have no desire to route other peoples payments. I just want to be able to have my wallet work with stacker consistently. I have tried the megalith node that is the default on my alby hub and had issues with no route available at times. I am new to all this and could use some help. Thank you for your help.
I have a smaller channel with Stacker News.
I just followed the instructions on @SimpleStacker’s guide for attaching an Alby Hub wallet.

I found the guide. This is exactly what I tried to do. And it didn't open because it said 1 mil sats was the minimum. It wasn't a 1 million sat minimum for you?
reply
Interesting. My channel with Stacker.News is <1 mil sats.
If you go to their Amboss page, you can see that a channel with 200k sats was opened just 20 days ago.
Are you sure the channel opening failed because of a minimum capacity requirement? I wonder if it was some other issue.
reply
No, but maybe they changed it. I don't know much about how this stuff works.
Is the difference public vs private?
reply
I wouldn't think so but I have no idea. I am also new and learning. And I don't really have a desire to know it all. I just want to be able to use my node with stacker and send zaps. Thanks for your suggestion.

I've had very little success making channels to most other nodes I've tried.

I just opened one that appears to be directly connected to stacker, and its large with what looks like low fees and it worked with only 300,000 sats. We will see. I feel so stupid when working on this stuff.

I know what you mean. I have no idea why things work sometimes but not others.

Yeah. And honestly i have a really hard time learning from many guides as there is often something slightly different and then I get stuck. I am someone who best learns by doing. And slowly it starts to make more sense. I have tried a node a few times in the past and gave up. This time i have a real reason to get it working which is cool. Slowly I am learning.
Thanks for doing this in ~bitcoin_beginners. It's really helpful for noobs. I know I'll ultimately have to run my own node for stacker news at some stage.

You can try Rizful for running a node! https://rizful.com/

cool ! Please can you add / promote your node on Zeus and Blixt community list? Please follow the same pattern to post your node.

This is helpful. I will probably try one of those next. Thank you.

you can open one with all ur sats, then use boltz to bring half or 3/4 back on chain and open the other. that way you got some inbound liquidity. ideally youd have inbound / outbound in both eventually so you run into less routing issues.

  1. 250k is too small even for a private channel. Why? Because of commit fees (we've talk about that here yesterday). You will be in a position where you could not use your small channel until the mempool fees will not be calm down. You have been warned and you will remember my words.
  2. For a private node (unannounced channels) you should use a good LSP, that have good public routes to multiple destinations.
  3. If you use that node only for SN, then 1 channel with SN node is enough. But what about being able to pay to other destinations or to swap out from that channel? You will depend only on SN node capacity to route your payment to a swap node. Sometimes could fail sometimes not. So in this case you will need other peers with which you can do circular rebalancing from that SN channel. That means you need more liquidity in channels too.
Again, prove what I said: that SN was in a hurry with all this move to p2p wallets is too early because many stackers ARE NOT WELL PREPARED (with funds and also with knowledge). Running a LN node, even a private one, REQUIRE some testing and knowledge.
For your case, using LN only for SN, you are better with a custodial wallet used as bridge between SN and your self-custodial wallets. Read my guides, I've talk about many of them. https://darth-coin.github.io/beginner/getting-started-stack-sats-en.html
