The reason: In 2022, New York's attorney general had to revise the rules surrounding gun buybacks after an unidentified man from West Virginia exploited a loophole at an event in Utica, New York.
The man reportedly earned $21,000 in gift cards after turning in 60 printed auto sears, which likely cost him $50 in plastic filament. That's a heck of a return.
"Are you guys going to get scammed by the ppl bringing in those cheap 3d printed guns? It was like an unlimited money glitch for them," one X user asked James.
State getting scammed, hilarious!!! Gun buyback humor and money making efforts. I just loved it. LMAO
That should be the end of gun buyback programs, then.

Anybody with sense wouldn’t give them the sweat off of their balls on these buybacks! I see Canada is going into the tyranny business very soon. The people there may even cooperate! Molon labe!

I'm proud to have been born in Utica, which Walter Cronkite more or less described as "a hive of villainy and scum".
For a while it was an arson capital of the US (insurance money).
Glad to see the tradition is continued at the state's expense.

If you google it, you can see this has happened at multiple of these "gun buyback" events.
You could probably make a living by just driving from town to town with a van full of 3D printed garbage and selling them.
Regardless, 90+% of the "guns" in these buy backs are broken, worthless garbage. Talking old rusted and bent guns. Its great because you take the money from the old worthless gun and go buy a new gun with it.

The best thing is you empty the treasuries of these kinds of programs quickly, effectively and without much effect on the gun owning population. It is.a fool’s errand in the US.

Reminds me of the time I went to the bank and traded in washers with two quarters on the ends of the rolls for $50 in fiat only took me 2dollars to make $50
