pull down to refresh

My wife wants to see Wicked which I'm not not excited to see. I've never found myself ready to see a musical, but I usually don't mind them when I do. I'm not sure we'll make it to the theater this weekend though.
Regardless, in retribution, I was considering having her watch The Jackal for the first time.
Day of the Jackal is a great new show
also enjoying the show Landman

Saw the Reason documentary about Argentina and Milei the other night. It was alright https://reason.com/video/2024/12/05/javier-milei-madman-or-savior/
Otherwise, chilled with some good-old Game of Thrones before bed yesterday
reply
Beetlejuice and The Substance are both on our list to watch in the next few days.
The Jackal -- haven't seen it in ages, but man, the era of "Jack Black dying horribly but also amusingly" (with this, Mars Attacks, and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer) was short-lived but entertaining.
reply
I watched Twisters last weekend. It wasn't terrible but not great either.
reply
Felt the same way.
reply
Did you like the original?
reply
I did. Very memorable which is probably why they remade it. You?
reply
Yes but I liked it more when it first came out. Seemed unique and the special effects were so cool backed then. I watched it again recently, a few weeks before the new one, and I still liked it but I was not wowed by it like I was almost 30 years ago.

My dad used to own the DVD of the original Twister movie. I distinctly remember the flying cow scene. I wasn't sure if they were yelling "holy cow" or not though. I found it quite funny.
Haven't seen the new one, can't judge.
reply
The flying cow is such a famous scene.

I plan on going to watch a Hong Kong movie called The Last Dance with my wife this weekend. It's a movie about the funeral business in Hong Kong. How a funeral agent and a Taoist Priest have differences in views and believes while having to work together to transcend the souls of the dead and the souls of the living.
reply
Thanks for the heads-up. I enjoyed the Japanese film called Departures n feel that I will enjoy The Last Dance as well

The Departures was a masterpiece! I cried like a baby when I saw that one. I think it won best foreign film award in the 2009 Oscars. I just looked it up, that was the year Slumdog Millionaire was the big winner, winning 8 Oscars; Heath Ledger won best supporting actor as The Joker in The Dark Knight; WALL-E was the best animated film. Overall a great year for films.

I have been on a Phillip Seymoure Hoffman kick..older movies. I think he is a great actor.
Love Lisa Owning Mahowny 25th Hour
I just looked at a list of his movies and picked a few.. his stuff is usually darker but I like that sometimes.

You’ve never seen Elf?! Classic Christmas movie
reply
Oh I’ve seen it dozens of times but I don’t have the service that streams it.
We have to chase that down every year iirc

My wife and I watched "Biggest Heist Ever" on Netflix. It's a documentary about the bitfinex hack.
reply
Watched this earlier, I hadn’t heard of the bitfinex hack before it.
reply
wow you don't know the Bitcoin history? Here you have more about Bitfinex inside job (wasn't a hack) and other "hacks" in Bitcoin history. https://darthcoin.substack.com/p/darth-calling-out-the-scams
reply
I didn’t get into bitcoin until a few years ago and there is a LOT to catch up on. This is a great source, thanks!
reply
I definitely wouldn't put it past bitfinex, they aren't exactly bastions of morality.
reply
Check the QuadrigaCX case too, see the link I posted above, some good investigations in there.
"Biggest Heist Ever" is quite misleading, presenting those patsies as being the real "hackers". They are not, is a bullshit made up story.
reply
Looks like it have something to listen to at work this week. Thanks.
reply
I also watched the new Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. I thought it was decent as far as reboot sequels go. A lot of that going on right now since it seems Hollywood is creatively bankrupt..
reply
We had been thinking about watching that one. Sounds like what you’d expect
reply
Pretty much.
reply
I'm watching Black Doves.
reply
Never heard of it
reply
It came out on December 5th, 2024 in Netflix.
reply
That explains it
reply
Well we were thinking about wicked (which I didn't like for the same reason as yours) but now we've decided to watch Pushpa 2. Here's the trailer for you.

Finishing Justified (the old one) and start the new one Justified: city primeval And Silo is getting better and better, really exciting.
reply
I like the Silo too. Apple ticks me off with the one-per-week episodes, get the season out already; you already have it, "Release the Hounds"...

I just finished The Madness; it was pretty good.

Stacker News!!! Is there anything else more amusing? Lately, movies have just been real downers to watch, so I gave up on the new ones. The old ones are great, though.

Any old ones in particular?
reply
Yes, I like sci-fi movies a lot so I have the theatrical releases of all the Star Wars movies, except the last three. :( I also have the theatrical and extended releases of the Matrix and LOTR. I like watching them in the order of the books, though I think the Hobbit is overdone and has too much that wasn’t in the book, but LOTR was done very well. Kubrick films are also pretty good.

The Diplomat, can't wait for a new season already. and Tulsa King, Sly is good in this one...!

Christmas with the Kranks

Watching Mouse Trap on Amazon now. Just a low budget horror rendition of Mickey Mouse.

Yesterday I watched a Korean movie named "Forgotten". It was a fantastic thriller and mystery film, and i love it.
reply
This week I'll be watching "A Beautiful Mind." It was mentioned recently in a podcast, and it's one of those movies that I've seen a few times, but since I'm a sleepy guy, I didn't understand many things. Today, my new power (The Bitcoiner Perspective) helps me better understand movies, series, or documentaries that I've seen before knowing about Bitcoin and that talk about the banking or fiduciary system in which we live.
