Mr Vince, the boss of Ecotricity, the green energy firm, is a vegan. He said tobacco-style regulation should control bacon sales, after warnings by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2015 that “processed meats” were a group-one carcinogen. Scientists said there was “sufficient” evidence that the foods caused cancer, in particular colon cancer. “The medical science is very clear that eating more plants and less animals is better for our health,” Mr Vince said. “Also we know, for example, bacon is a carcinogen and it is classed by the WHO as a class one carcinogen alongside tobacco. “Now look what we do with tobacco. We hide it behind roller shutter doors, we stick it in unbranded packages with pictures of diseased organs on the front. That’s how we deal with tobacco.
Previously,
Mr Vince, who owns the vegan football club Forest Green Rovers, called for the introduction of a red meat tax to help slow climate change.
He said red meat was “destructive” to the planet and human health, with the comments coming after Mr Sunak had promised in his Tory conference speech never to introduce new taxes to discourage meat-eating. https://readwise.io/reader/shared/01jd1pzzjhrattmh3sr71mbbgh
How is this the same, or different than what RFK Jr wants to implement in the US? In both cases, it seems that a few people are leveraging their wealth and influence to dictate other people's behaviour?
RFK has made the bold claim that he could significantly improve Americans' health within 2 years. Here, I wonder what the impact would be of introducing a meat tax and labeling bacon in the UK, how it would translate into consumer behaviour, and overall public health and environmental outcomes.
EDIT: Reading this related article: https://readwise.io/reader/shared/01jd1kwssp0ba2bjys3p2rswby, this seems to be another example how solid science is being misused to pursue personal ideological goals. The article makes it clear that the issue is with processed foods. Mr Vince selectively puts focus on "(processed) meat", and he makes it clear he will not stop at your bacon, but also your meat. Then why not your eggs as well?

Curious how the WHO classified "processed meats", since bacon is about as unprocessed as you can get. The only processing that goes into bacon is that it comes pre-sliced.
I'm sure they'd rather I eat a vegan "meat alternative", but of course it's okay when that's made of a hundred different processed chemicals, because really it's never been a war on processed foods, it's a war on healthy foods.

I haven't read the science, but I think that the bacon you buy in the supermarket has some other ingredients added to extend its shelf life. But this is valid for almost everything else in the supermarket. Why is bacon being singled out, then?

Probably because it's full of animal fats, which according to modern dietary advice are unhealthy (despite being the bedrock of human diets for millennia). Bacon is particularly fatty as far as the commonly-consumed red meats are concerned.

It has been noticed by some that cigarette packaging with deadly warnings does not curb the enthusiasm for the product. Kind of like the drug dealer who tells his client, "This shit will kill you, quick!" And the heroin addict says, "Great, I'll take it."
Regarding factory farming and subsidized food as well as plant (chemical plant) based foods RFKj is interested in getting rid of fluoride in drinking water, rape seed (canola) oil, high fructose corn syrup and many other processes that because of Fiat money big businesses use these to extend the life of products and produce them more cheaply.
As a vegetarian sometimes pescatarian, I've been reading labels since 1986 and canola oil was not in any products 30 years ago. I have friends who give me some of the vegetarian products that they have bought and these products are highly toxic. The mindless argument of meat based and plant based is still overlooking chemical based. Big pharmaceuticals in the plants and animals, chemical processes to make the plants and animals appear natural and chemical processes in packaging and preservation all are deadly.
RFKj understands how Fiat works as well. To have sound money business can focus on high quality products and compete in the marketplace without having the oxymoron of cheap crap labeled under the auspices of Fiat currency and authority.
Below is some moronic sticker meant to make you feel good about ingesting poison. If you know something is a poison why do you need to balance is intake? You don't.
