Right now I'm downloading bitcoin cores, whenever that syncs up I'll go from there. I have no idea what I'm going to do for LN yet, I haven't gotten that far. 

I think that is a good way to learn. It's great to hear you are doing it though. I just got my lightning set up and it feels pretty cool. And I feel like I am starting to understand better. I have been around a while and I still am learning so much. How are you running the node?

Once I get up and running and get my wallet connected to my own node, I plan on branching out to running a lighting node.

I'm just slowly working my way through all of this stuff, it's all outside of my wheel house, so I just slowly pick away at stuff and continue to learn.
