I'll likely be traveling for work to Austin from the 8th to the 12th of December. Any recommendations on where to go for cheap accommodation? I'm very easy to accommodate, I could sleep on a couch.
There should be some research money left for this, but my first checks on booking.com seem to be slightly above budget.
The La Quinta in downtown Austin always seems to be popular with bitcoiners. Reasonable accomodations, but pretty minimal. Close to pleblab and the rest of downtown. Can't beat the price.

Thanks for the suggestion, but for now seems like I'll be going with Airbnb. My colleague seemed to have found something reasonable that we can share to split cost. Will keep this in mind in case it falls through.

I was in Austin recently and was doing some searching on AirBnB (didn't end up using AirBnB though.
It was very strange - the more you zoomed in, the more AirBnB's there were. If you were zoomed out, it just showed a few, but zoom in and it seemed like there were dozens in a few blocks.
I'm guessing that AirBnB is favoring certain places, and doesn't want to show (until you zoom in) how many places are available on AirBnB.

You're right, they seem to have a tricky algorithm pushing some places over others.

Hostels? If my house weren't 600 sqft, I'd offer to let you crash on our couch (in our case it'd be a floor, but same same).

No worries, we seem to have found sth already.
Not sure I'll have a lot of time, but is it possible to come say hi in Pleblab at some point? Don't want to interrupt of course. I'll be near UT at Austin, so not exactly downtown, but not too far either.

Yeah! Come through. I can give you a hat. We're at 601 Congress Ave these days.
What days are you here? There might be a meetup I can recommend.

Arriving late at night on the 9th, leaving early morning on the 12th. It's a pretty short and likely intense work trip, but I've told myself next time I visit Austin I should def try to see the SN headquarters. What are your usual working hours?
A meetup for sure could be interesting, after work hours might be easier to socialize.

No pressure obviously, but definitely stop by to get some swag.

You'll have just missed Austin Bitcoin Club on the 7th. Meetups are usually on Thursdays, so it looks like you won't be able to catch one.

Try Airbtc. Probably many listings in Austin.

Good idea. Weirdly, on phone, only lets me curate by country... but I'll go through the US listings to see if any Austin options.
Will be a chance to let my employer know about payments in Bitcoin~~

Your employer is a university?
reply
In a sense. Why?
reply
Universities are not interested in bitcoin payments.
What do you mean by in a sense?
You are employed by a university but your salary is paid by a private benefactor?
reply
Too many listings in Austin, right @k00b?

I have always traveled through several states and counties. I once went to Boston, Massachusetts, and their hotel accommodations are very expensive, but I have not had the opportunity to go to Austin, I certainly know that the price varies depending on the state.
