Once you have connected the external wallet(s) and set the desired balance on the receiving wallet to zero with the autowithdraw button enabled, any sats that are zapped from your posts or comments will go directly to your receiving wallet.
This is a great feeling. You have a more direct approach to your sats because you see them coming into your wallet in small pieces and gradually accumulating there.
Do you agree with me?
I do. It's been a while now and I still enjoy it. I like it most of all because we're all pioneers really stretching the lightning network, putting it through a stress test and forcing it to succeed or fail.

I hadn't thought of it that way, but I agree with you.

I like being called a pioneer haha

I'm just happy to have my setup more or less working. I don't necessarily like any more than the custodial SN wallet situation.

For me, it's better using an external custodial wallet.

to zap or be zapped that is the question

To crap and zap.
Is the power.

No. A system like SN with paying sats for each post / comment / reply and then zap sats to a post should stay more or less custodial.
It will create too much friction for a meaningless result in self-custody. But they are too scared pussies about being "money transmission machine" and they decided to throw the dead cat into your hands.
If you will run a real LN node by yourself you wills see that this will not be economically and technically a good solution for you.
Yes now you are happy to see sats flowing straight into a wallet of yours, but that doesn't mean later you will not change your perspective.
If you just use another custodial wallet as external, you also didn't change too much "self-custody"... you just also throw the dead cat body to another custodian. So there's no big deal with that.
You will see soon that I am right.

If you can use a custodial wallet as an external wallet, you won't have to pay too many fees. Once you have accumulated a reasonable number of sats, you can transfer them to a self-custodial wallet. It's the same as before: you had a custody wallet inside SN, now you have one outside SN. This way we don't put SN owners in unnecessary danger.
But they are too scared pussies about being "money transmission machine" and they decided to throw the dead cat into your hands.
I think they are right to be afraid. Why should we expose them to the risk of being accused of being "money transmission machine"?
You will see soon that I am right.
I'm afraid that this time you won't be right.

Yeah it is even though I moved to Coinos which is still custodial.
Though I admit I don’t like seeing the 0 in the upper right corner now πŸ˜…

I totally agree with you, although I liked the system as it was, but I have always been open to changes.

I’m still in disbelief regarding whether my wallet really works. I think I will only allow myself to feel happy when I can buy gift cards from my external wallet haha

it's cool isn't it? Why don't more people use this stuff?

I mean, I'm pretty tech illiterate so I'm running LND, but at least I vaguely understand backups and channel closure possibility. Using it for my spending, and being able to backend so many wallets directly to myself.
I suppose for the majority it's still too complicated. I for one though, cannot seem to stop pushing further in this direction.

Keep Going! Lightning in my opinion is very, very good. I used to use Phoenix and it was 'good enough' in my opinion for larger-scale adoption... but running one's own node is best.

It's been wild. If only I could tally all my transactions between all the LN wallets I've tried along the way, custodial to self hosted. Between SN and Nostr, even just 7 or 21 sats at a time, gift card purchases, DCA withdrawals. Literally tens of thousands over the last two years.
At the very least lightning has scaled my use and spending habits.

Good for you! Lightning is impressive. It's the 'value superhighway' the way the internet was the 'information superhighway' in my opinion!
But don't forget, capital gains taxes have to be calculated and kept track of for all those sats! ;)
Every zap, however small is a capital gains transaction and if you receive 10 sats then you need to keep track of the price when receiving them! And the 'gain' when you 'send them out' again on Nostr! ;) ;)
And don't forget buy your bonds ;)
