Picking movies off a shelf versus scrolling through a streaming service

We’ve been getting DVDs from the library lately. It’s a lot more fun picking a random movie I’ve never seen than through a streaming service. I don’t know why. Also, a lot of the Criterion Collection movies are at the library so that’s fun. Also, there is the added benefit that, besides whatever system the library stores our data in, us watching a DVD is completely offline. Our viewing isn’t some data point for some intern to pull out of a report.
Here are our recent watches:
  • Paths of Glory (really good)
  • any Hayao Miyazaki or Studio Ghibli
  • Hud (really good)
  • Rear Window
  • Anatomy of a Murder
On my shelf right now:
  • Barry Lyndon
  • Tess
Anyone else getting DVDs from the library? what movies have you watched?

Used to be fun going to the blockbuster checking the new releases then digging through the movies for something new to watch .
But now I just use streaming services

Yep, and another thing is you can take them and watch them over and over a few times before returning it. It is always fun to look at the cover of the DVD case. In fact, just looking at the cover has made me decide to borrow quite a few movies from the library. Back in the day, Blockbuster Movies had a huge, beautiful display of DVD and video covers to look at, divided by category! Yep, those were the days!

Yes, there is something about the discoverability in person. Same with books. Probably same with everything.

I, personally, like to have the thing in my hand, to touch, to feel, and to examine closely and buy or borrow it if I want to. This may be the reason why I try to avoid buying on line, if at all possible. Also, for some reason, I have despised Amazon since they were simple booksellers.

I recently watched Seven Samurais. Yes, I am using a DVD player. I am going to rewatch this again.
