Hello Stackers!
It's Thursday so that means it's Throwback Thursday Time!
Throwback Thursday is changing, (or rather, I'm trialling something out).
I'm going to give you a bunch of clues and I want you to guess the year and comment a song from that year. Highest ranked correct answer (by "top") gets the bounty. Entries close prior to "Feel Good Friday" Post.
🚨A guess without a correct song doesn't win, both your guess and the song must be from the correct year.🚨
Here we go!
  • Gorillaz: The virtual band's debut album was released in March, and within 6 years it had sold more than seven million copies worldwide.
  • The Beatles: The band's greatest hits album, 1, was the best-selling album of the year.
  • NSYNC: The band's Celebrity album had the biggest sales week in this year, selling 1.8 million copies in its first week.
  • Westlife: The band's rendition of Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl" was a huge hit, and was released as a Comic Relief charity single.
  • Blue: The band's debut album, All Rise, was released in November, and the band had two number-one singles, "Too Close" and "If You Come Back".
  • Lifehouse: The band's "Hanging by a Moment" was the best-performing single of the year.
  • Destiny's Child: The band had three songs on the Billboard Year-End Hot 100 singles list, including "Independent Women", which was number one for 11 weeks.
  • Incubus: The band's album Morning View debuted at number two on the Billboard Top 200.
  • Manic Street Preachers: The band became the first Western rock band to play in Cuba.
  • Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent: The original Zombies lead singer and keyboardist reunited for a performance at London's Jazz Cafe after more than 30 years.
Do you remember any notable music events of this year?
Enya released May it be.

It's so melodious! Listening her for the first time..

As sorted by "top" we have a winner. With a fantastic submission from the amazing Dido. Great job and thanks for playing πŸ‘Š

Thanks for the game. It's fun. Before selecting this one I listened at least 10 songs from 2001. I also listened @IamSINGLE's submission which is great but Dido has won my heart and now won this game as well.
reply
Dido is such a fantastic artist, that whole album is beautiful.

This song was such a huge hit and dido was a massive artist, she kinda of did her thing and then went away and enjoyed retirement. I think she's still doing stuff but not hugely mainstream anymore. She's an incredible artist.
Spot on with the year aswell.

The best of bests.... Love it.

This song 😍😍😍 I remember this, it's gorgeous. Great choice. But according to the Google you're a year out.
Edit, I stand corrected. Google said 2000 but when I looked into it, it was officially released January 9th 2001. Means you are indeed correct.

Nice. On the same wavelength today. I didn't see your comment. Obviously since you were first the bounty should go to you if this song wins. (@Public_N_M_E)

Depends what kinda mood I'm in, maybe you both get a bounty, maybe not, still time for the stackers to stack up their favourite track.
reply
No worries! I'm not sure if you were the one who zapped me 100 on my comment, but yours with my 33 sats is still number one. I guess I'm having a good trustrank 🀠
reply
You are a high value stacker while I am a troll. It will be interesting to see how the ranks change. I don't think it is immediate.
reply
I can't believe I have a higher trustrank than you! I think I read somewhere that the local ranking calculation in post comments is either instant or updates every 5 minutes. That's a good question to ask @k00b.

Bon Jovi - It's My Life

Lots of those tracks are coming up with a 2000 release, so that gives me the opportunity to go with this absolute belter from Bon Jovi. The crowd certainly seems to think so 🀘
reply
I've had to double check a bunch of them, I think something's weird with the Google, it's stating 2000 for a lot of them but when I go I to the information it shows like January 2001. This song was such a massive anthem aswell
reply
For album only tracks you are stuck with the year that was released, but if a track was released as a single in the following year from when it was released on the album, you've got two options.
reply
Yeah, I'm being quite lenient with it as it's only for fun, if the album or the single were the correct year then I'll take it.

System Of A Down - Chop Suey!
reply
We must get Chop Suey to the top 1 and 2 position to ensure its victory.

Soad. I miss soad. this song is AJ absolute anthem and yes, it was released in the correct year.
reply
I'm confused because some of these are coming up 2000 and others are coming up 2001.
I'm going to go with 2001 and share this mega throwback from Shakira - Whenever, Wherever with her mesmerising hips 😁

This song, this artist, just awesome. I'll always be a Shakira fan. And her performance with Beyonce at the Superbowl was just incredible. What a performer and artist. Amazing track, and correct on the year.
I also had to do a double take on a few of these songs, although Google is saying 2000 for some of them when I delve deeper it corrects itself to 2001.

2001, when The White Stripes dropped "White Blood Cells," with this banger of a song and video directed by Michael Gondry.
reply
This album was huge. And yep, spot on with the year I was looking for.
reply
How can you live like that?
reply
Awesome song and a completely different genre to all the other submissions. But I was looking for songs from the same year as the clues. And I can tell you. It ain't 76 this time.
reply
Ha! Whoops, I totally missed that these are now year-centric too!

2001 in the end linkin park

In the end it doesn’t even matter
