Do you have any tips for normies that may want to try it? Mostly, how to set up a signet node and get RPC server, user and password?

Sorry, I consider myself a "normie" too and haven't had time to test it out yet.

I think if you're running a bitcoin node already there should be a way to switch to signet. Sparrow wallet has an option to "restart in signet" and there should be at least 1 community node you can connect to. As for signet coins if you join the joinstr group in simplex, someone might offer to give you some for testing.
