We have a puppy that is a couple months old. She is happy and seems quite healthy. At least a few times a day, she vomits up a little bit of her food. Sometimes just liquid. She then eats it back up. She seems good other than that. Does anyone have ideas on what this could be about. She was the runt of a large litter. I have no desire to take her to a vet. I would like to hear directly from anyone with ideas on what might help her. Thank you.

Could be portioning. If they're eating too fast/too much, feed in smaller, more frequent meals.

Is the puppy's stool normal? For a while we were using peanut butter in our first dog's Kong bone, and it turns out the peanut butter we were using had a salmonella recall we weren't aware of for a long time. Have you checked for recalls on the products you're giving them?

Maybe eating too fast. Give her smaller portions more often.

Is she drinking water ok?

That's a great idea. She was raised around 8 other puppies and it was super chaotic. Maybe she's in the habit of eating too fast.

i developed reflux for a while because i was eating fast my entire life. my grandmother joked that i would do well in the army. now i cannot eat in the evenings, or else i have to take a walk, sit up for a while, or sleep in a reclining position.

so i second the advice of smaller meals and a walk immediately after. the puppy's stomach should soon outgrow this issue. watch out for quality of poops and general energy levels, of course.

No issues with her stool?

Our dog had pancreatitis and that caused her to vomit after eating, have loose stools and be very lethargic. It can happen if they eat too much fatty foods. But since she is a pup and drinking and you say she seems otherwise healthy it is probably unlikely.

It could be something he ate that made him sick, many times their stomachs go through that, I tell you because at one point I had a beautiful Golden and that happened to him often.

Once upon a time, I owned a pet store and helped raise dogs. Usually when this happens, it means something in the food isn't agreeing with their digestive system, but they need the nutrients and so they eat it again to try to make sure they are getting whatever it is they instinctively lack. I would suspect grain to be the culprit. Perhaps corn?

That makes sense. We have been supplementing her food with better stuff like eggs, goat milk, chicken broth but maybe we should cut the dog food out all together. We buy mid grade food that surely has a lot grain in it.

Yeah, I'd try that first. If it still happens, the food may be too rich for her. Some breeders raise dogs on food that is not very nutrient dense, and then they get used to eating it, and when they get better stuff it upsets their systems.

Not all at once. That is just different things we have tried. Always along with dog food. And her mom is here. So she fed from her mom as long as she needed to. She is actually more like 3 months but this has been going on since she was young.
