This is a pretty experimental release.

boost changes

  1. the highest boost in a territory over the last 30 days is pinned to the top of it
  2. the highest boost across all territories is pinned to the top of the homepage and rewards page
  3. all items can be boosted indefinitely
    • your own posts and comments now have a flipped bolt (distinguishing them from other posts), allowing you to boost them beyond the edit window
  4. the job board is now ranked by boost
    • territories with an "auction" ranking system (only ~jobs can do this currently), use boost to rank posts in hot
The hope in general is this serves as a significant revenue source for territory founders.

70% of fees go to territory founders

Previously, founders got 50% of fees in their territories with the other 50% going to the rewards pool. Now, they get 70% of the fees (posts, comments, boost, zap sybil fees) and 30% goes to the rewards pool.

30% sybil fee is taken on zaps

Previously, we took 10% of zaps for ranking sybil resistance. This is insufficient for real sybil resistance. People still sybil zap their own subpar content at 10% so we've increased this to 30%. 10% isn't a whole lot for the outbound route for p2p zaps either.
As always, that sybil fee that's left over from the territory founders revenue goes to rewards.

That flipped bolt is such an eyesore! I loved how easy it was to find my posts with the empty space. Why not just use a B for boost? It would look so much better. Just a thought.

I have to agree. I'll enjoy it as it is for a while to see if my eyes adjust, but at the moment it feels confusing because it isn't different enough.

You might be right. We'll let breathe for a bit. ek wanted to use this (to save him from scorn):

:) looks nice!

I agree with you. It's eye catching in the wrong way.

There was some discussion in the PR about this

Example Breakdown of Zaps
100 sat zaps before: 90 sats to receiver (10% sybil fee) + 5 sats (50% territory revenue) + 5 sats (50% rewards)
100 sat zaps now: 70 sats to receiver (30% sybil fee) + 21 sats (70% territory revenue) + 9 sats (30% rewards)
reply
Getting zapped is nerfed, while rewards are powered up.
I'm excited to see how it plays out. That 30% cut is probably going to make it so we stop using zaps for our various pools, which is a little disappointing.
reply
Yes, that's a valid point. Maybe the president doesn't like pools.

We'd need a zap that doesn't affect ranking so people can pay each other with zaps as if you would when using their lightning address.
reply
A zap button on our profile solves that.

👀
Maybe we need to overhaul the lightning address button in every profile. It currently only shows a QR code on press so you can pay using LNURL. It should give more options.

Having more options in that button will be cool:
  • copy address
  • copy LNurl
  • zap ⚡️
  • QR code
  • what else?

  • send a message using the lightning address

Yessss… DM on SN need a pump up too! A way to make it easier and more intuitive to send messages over lightning
Yes. I think that's important.
reply
Yeah, for the survivor pools and such that's gonna be interesting. I've added 2k to 5k sats to pools I don't even particularly take part of. What's a work around do you think for the pools and such, which I think are one of the aspects of the community I enjoy the most!
reply
We'll just have to do lightning invoices and then trust whoever's running the pool to do the accounting honestly.
reply
I agree but also hate that "trust" haha. The NFL Survivor pool is like 350k sats.

We can start using ecash for these pools, so at least the rug pull will be indiscriminate 👀
reply
Either way we're trusting the person to actually pay out. The only real difference would be a lack of transparency about how large the pool is.
reply
True true. I suppose I had wishful thinking, but I also trust GrayRuby as he has incentives by owning the sports territory. Uneducated question, would DLCs or Cashu/Fedi mints be a solution in the future for something like a trust less pool? I'm not too familiar with either however.
reply
No idea. I think reputation can handle this for the foreseeable future.
Yeah. 30% cut on 10k buy in is a bit too much. We will just find another way.
reply
Thanks for the explanation as this will affect how I arrange pool prizes.
reply
Thank you for this, it’s very helpful

Btw, just realized this is a 420% increase in revenue for founders, lol (21/5 = 4.2)
edit: damn math, 4.2 means it's an increase by 320%, not 420% (1.0 would mean no increase)
reply
It's 420% of the previous income share, though. English to the rescue, where math failed.

Every change generates different criteria. Every platform must evolve in its actions.
For me, SN is a PoW platform with added rewards. I always, and I say always, come out well rewarded, every day, even if I haven't stacked so many SATs, which in my opinion, MINE, are not few. But I always come out with knowledge. So if the work team understands that these changes will improve the platform in some way, then welcome. From the whole explanation I understood that before what was sent to a stacker, 10% was discounted and now it is 30%, if that is going to allow the platform to improve and last. My applause.
reply
While I like the breakdown of zaps, I feel the zap amount is going to be lowered.
And what if Stackers keep on zapping their subpar content even after it; which imo they can.
reply
0 sats \ 1 reply \ @k00b OP 8h
They'll pay everyone else with good content more than they were before.
reply
Let's see how it goes, I've mixed feelings. But, it's definitely a good move for territory owners. Out of 100, 21 goes to them. How I see it they they only require an 15000 Sats zap daily on the territory to maintain it. Territories are gonna be in profit for sure.
reply
30% now? @k00b youre getting greedy now...

Very interesting, sometimes I get lost in the thread of the conversation, being able to identify what I wrote about others is appreciated.

Also, and suspiciously, the ~Stacker_Sports logo. How much do we really know about this @grayruby character?

Following your post , I have searched and I have learnt what a Sybil attack is and Sybil resistance means. If this is what it is needed, fair enough, I hope it helps.
