This release:

  1. Account Switching

You can now switch between accounts without logging out. Use the switch accounts option in the profile dropdown for that. This currently only supports login with lightning or nostr.

  1. Anon Edits

If you created an item as @anon, you now have the usual access to edits within 10 minutes.

  1. Video Uploads

You can now also upload videos. Supported file types are mp4, mpeg or webm.

  1. Bugfixes
  • If you had someone replies to someone who replied to me enabled in your settings and subscribed to someone's comments and that someone replied to you, you received two push notifications for the same item; one for the reply and one for the subscription. You will now only receive one push notification in that case, just like the notification page does.
  • We accidentally deleted receive wallets on logout. We only intended to delete the spending credentials that are stored on your device on logout to avoid sharing them with someone else if you're using a shared device. We now correctly only delete these spending credentials on logout. Receive wallets are stored on the server and will now still be there when you log back in.
  1. Other Stuff
  • Media content can now show up next to each other, see #683474 for example. It used to use one line per image/video.
  • The free upload quota has been increased from 50 MB per day to 250 MB per day if you're logged in. After that, each upload costs 10 sats until you hit 500 MB. Then each will cost you 100 sats until 1 GB after which each upload costs 1k sats. Uploads for @anon always cost 100 sats. Uploads are still deleted within 24 hours if they aren't used in a SN post or comment.

Previous release: #676265

We are hiring.

This currently only supports login with lightning or nostr

Does this mean you only see the option if you’re using one of these methods? Or will you see the option regardless but it won’t work if you aren’t using one of them?

reply

The account that you're currently logged into can use any auth method but the account you want to login as must support either lightning or nostr. Setting the required cookies for this to work wasn't as easy for the OAuth providers and email.

reply

Yea, that makes sense. Thank you!

Follow up: if I switch from an account with only email to one with lightning, does that mean I can’t switch back with re authenticating?

reply

No, after you used switch accounts to login as another account, you can switch between them without reauthentication required. You can simply click on the account you want to use:

Will be SN became a new kind of youtube in the future?

@remindme in 3 years

reply

once you upload a video, can you reuse the same link, so no need to re-upload?

reply

Yes, unless you're @siggy47, then it might not work (#683221).

@siggy47, I'll look into it now

reply

I didn't know about the 24 hour rule. Makes sense

reply

I updated the FAQ with it now even though I don't expect anyone to read it.

Account Switching

Is this meme still valid for the "account switchers" ?

reply

In theory we could know which accounts are linked since your browser sends all linked accounts on each request to the server. We're using a "pointer cookie" to determine which account from all available ones will be used on the server.

reply

LOL I should make another meme with "account switchers" now 😂😂😂

reply

You hear that assmilkers?

This actually makes me ever so slightly uncomfortable…

reply

I haven't found a better solution :(

I wish I had a suggestion for you but I don’t

seems like we're missing some margin between text and media content

reply

I usually put a line break between.

reply

Yeah it's tricky. We have 3 different media "modes":

  • alone, surrounded by no other media or content (double newlines between it and other non-media content)
  • adjacent to other media each in their own p tags (double newlines between them)
  • adjacent to other media all in the same p tag (spaces or single newlines between them)

The post above covers an edge case I didn't cover (it's very tricky without preprocessing): non-media elements in the same p tag as the media.

Good one!

Maybe there will be lots of new account users with different names on SN, but the user is still him too.
