Hello Stackers!
It's Thursday so that means it's Throwback Thursday Time!
Throwback Thursday is changing, (or rather, I'm trialing something out).
I'm going to give you a bunch of clues and I want you to guess the year and comment a song from that year. First right answer gets the bounty.
🚨A guess without a correct song doesn't win, both your guess and the song must be from the correct year.🚨
Here we go!
  • During this year was a time in the UK now referred to as "The long Hot summer".
  • Major League Baseball: Mark Fidrych, pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, won the Major League Baseball Rookie Of The Year Award.
  • the Argentine coup d'état overthrew Isabel Perón as President of Argentina.
  • The Viking 1 lander successfully lands on Mars, taking the first close-up color photos of the planet's surface.
  • The Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers play their first football games.
  • Jimmy Carter beat Gerald Ford to become US president.
Let me know your feedback on this, I'm toying with the idea of sticking only to music news rather than general news for this.
Have fun.

1976, the year of "Blitzkrieg Bop" -->

Correct answer! And a very good track to go with it. I'm thinking I kinda like the idea 0x came up with, what are your thoughts? A bunch of clues from different years and answers submitted in songs that match those clues? What do you think?
reply
!!!
Great game.
More clues from different years would make it more exciting and varied, yeah.
reply
Alright, Think I've got a plan for next week, sounds fun.
reply
year and music for each clue ?
example:
  • During this year was a time in the UK now referred to as "The long Hot summer".
    • 1976
    • Wings - Silly Love Songs
reply
Sorry looks like @eduardopro beat you to it. You were correct, and Wings is a great song from that year.
reply
@eduardopro won because he answered early, right?
reply
Yep, it was first to the punch this time, but I might switch it up to a zaprank, most popular tracks from the clues as voted by the users? Zap the comment you think has the best selection of tracks? What do you think, first come first serve doesn't help people on different time zones.
reply
Time zones are a major issue, especially regarding the leaderboard (rank decreases with inactivity). It blatantly favors those who are awake at midnight in Austin. It significantly disadvantages Europeans.
Regarding this challenge, I think it's positive to do as you say. Among the correct answers, choose the winner based on the zaprank.

We can experiment with it over the next coming weeks and refine it. If it doesn't work, can always just revert back to what the throwback Thursday used to be.

Each clue was from the same year.
But I like your thinking, perhaps it could evolve to being a bunch of different year clues and bounty gets paid to the correct answers. Answers are submitted in music form? I kinda like that.

Oh sorry. I didn't read the new rules. I was just posting oldies as per usual. Haha.
reply
Haha no worries. Lots of people didn't 😂. Just trialing something out, would love your input as to how you think I can spice up the throwbacks whilst also giving a fair shot to anyone and not just first one.
reply
I like this new idea. I think you should still encourage people to post their own songs but have the bounty to "figure out Pub's song".
reply
I agree about encouraging any throwback posts, it's always good to go down memory lane, even if the year in question isn't one you were familiar with. Definitely some kinks to work out and some thought to be had.
reply
There's a couple ideas we can work with there. I'm going to have to get creative, like something officially released in December of one year but mostly heard the following year, try and throw a curve ball 😜.

In 1976 there was also
reply
Yeah this song is fantastic! I was lucky enough to see them live, and this track live was incredible.
reply
This is the best Aerosmith song. I didn't mind their foray into rock ballads but it got to be a bit much when they essentially released the same song 4 times. Haha.
