As I mentioned here a while ago, I've gotten pretty serious with Zwift to improve my fitness while biking indoors.
Then, summer happened, gained 5 kg eating good foods, and destroyed my FTP...
I have now gotten back into Zwiftt this week. Following one of the Zwift programs (build me up program) which should get me in pretty good shape in about 12 weeks with 5 hours of bike per week.
If you're on Zwift, and are ok with sharing your account name (I just use random initials in-game to keep some level of privacy), hit me up and we can find ways to motivate each other.
What other sport and health-related goals have you set yourself? Or do you need a little push to set one now (not tomorrow, not next month~~)?
After a couple of years struggling to find time to do some exercise, 5 months ago I decided to try, at least, walking 10000 steps daily. I am running/walking every morning since may and very happy to feel fitter again. Keep on cycling!
reply
That's really what it takes. Just get moving. A little or much, it doesn't matter, as long as it becomes a habit. It started with 10,000 steps last year for me after a few years of inactivity. Got a small saving's account which was giving me 11% interest if I was doing 10,000 steps every day for 200 days. It worked (except at the end, where I caved and sometimes shaked my phone to not have to go for a midnight beer run to get my steps in~~).
reply
That is an interesting nudge! 11% interest for walking!! I wish I had it here…
reply
It's nice, but not as great as it sounds. 11% on a lump sum is nice, however 11% with daily savings of a small capped amount, ends up being ~5% on the final amount saved after 200 days. Still nice, but it's mostly good marketing.

Understood!

Are you on Workit? They posted about their step counter app a while ago. I'm starting my first fitness challenge with them, which has a 300 kilosat prize.
reply
Yep! It has started today. Just completed the task. The pool is 740 kilosat plus 300k that will be awarded to 5 lucky winners.
reply
Nice! I need to get off my lazy butt, so I don't lose on day 1.
reply
I think that @grayruby is also in the participant’s list.
reply
Yes, I joined the challenge. Don’t have many steps in yet today since it is morning here but I will make sure to get my 10k in.
reply
Too bad it's not on Android yet. I remembered their post. Looks nice
reply
I think that they mentioned in a previous post that it would be available towards the end of the year.
Ok! Not many adding steps yet, but it may be due to time zones.
reply
Not sure how often the challenge points updates because it is showing me at 8 points but I am at 14 for today. Probably a lot of people only open the app once when they are done collecting steps for the day. They aren't mildly OCD like me and can't help but check how many points I have.
Is zwift free?
reply
Unfortunately, it is not.
I got gifted a one-year membership, so I'm trying to use it as well as possible before I have to make the decision to renew it or not on my own dime ;)
reply
I think we need to find out a better one and absolutely free one. This is too much for a month.
reply
It ain't cheap, I agree.
As I use it every day, I can live with spending this much, but indeed, lots of people have complained when they raised their fee a few months from 15 to 20 dollars.
There are a few other ones, but Zwift has the biggest community. I never tried the other ones. The people I know use Zwift.
Paid:
  • Rouvy: 12 dollar/month
  • Trainer road: 20 dollar/month
  • Sufferfest: 15 dollar/month
  • BKool: 10 dollar/month
  • Fulgaz: 13 dollar/month
Free:
  • RGT Cycling (premium is paid)
  • Golden Cheetah
  • MyWhoosh. I get plenty of ads for this one, so it seems to be quite active.
  • Kinomap (premium is paid)
It does take money to host and develop it, so I would be surprised to see anything if high quality being fully free. But who knows... Let us know if you have a good experience with any of the free ones above.
reply
Ok. I'll tell you.
reply
Thanks! I'll explore zwift and see how this works and fits in my schedule.
I see you are yet to share your Music meme on the BOMM here #671969
Please share. Unfortunately the post forgot to tag you there but it did it in the comments.
And, I would also love to know your views about SN ~Music Pool.
reply
Oh I suck at music... i just listen to whatever playlist shows up in Spotify. I think I only tried to make a meme once, in my whole life. I'm from the generation before memes became a thing... But thanks for tagging me :)
reply
Ahh! My bad!
You actually haven't joined the Music Pool! It's @TheWildHustle!
I somehow got confused and tagged you up there. I beg your pardon for this.
If you don't like music, no issues. You can participate by voting on the entries by stackers on the Battle posts by @SN_MusicPool
reply
No worries. I do like music, but as I barely know anything about it, I don't have much to contribute. Ok, I'll have a look at the entries ;)
reply
Our ~Music Pool relies heavily on the votes to decide the winner so just take it as a request.

Oh man, you are zwifting? What kind of bike are you using?
reply
Had a custom-painted triathlon bike when I was still doing triathlon 10 years ago. The company that made the bikes went down. They never really took off with the competition of the bigger companies out there.
It was pretty good though. For Zwift, it is clear overkill of course. Any bike would do the trick there. Just happy I can use it again after so many years of picking up dust.
And maybe one day I'll get back to triathlon, who knows.
Are you Zwifting too?
reply
No, I dont zwift. I like riding on rollers, though. Its a hard skill to pick up, but once you get it you are set for life. I also like to bike around outside. I just fixed up a vintage bike recently, an 1980s aero bike. Thing is so smooth. Each pedal has 32 bearings in it.
reply
I wish i could bike outside more often, but it's hard with a small kid.
Vintage bike, cool! Got a picture?
reply
Lotus Super Pro. Has a lot of the Dura Ace AX stuff on it. Very high quality stuff that was before its time.
reply
This is like Peloton ?
reply
I never used Peloton, but doesn't look like it's really the same.
With Zwift, you compete with other users on their stationary bikes in races, or climb real-life mountains, etc. The power you are developing on your bike gets transferred into your virtual cyclist on the screen in front of you.
Peloton seems more geared towards fitness classes over the internet?
reply
Yes
Peloton is a public company!
reply
Zwift?? I never heard about it. I'll check and get back to you

Doing aerobic exercises for at least 30 minutes, 3 times a week can mean an unexpected benefit.
Physical activity has amply demonstrated the beneficial effects on physical and mental health. Reduces stress, harmful body weight, improves blood circulation, improves bowel movements, reduces oxidizing substances, etc. So setting a goal of doing aerobic physical exercises for 30 minutes or more 3 or more times a week is an excellent decision.

Overall health challenge. I am trying to cut out sugar from my diet as much as possible. No soda or fruit juice, no candy or desserts. I also want to try to get back to lifting some heavier weights. 2 years ago I had a herniated disc in my back and it took about 2 months to be able to get back to just baseline physical activity. When I did get back to lifting weights a couple times a week I did it a much lighter weight and even though I have consistently lifted at least twice a week I haven't really pushed myself weight wise for fear I would end up hurting myself again. But this year I did have a bit of a flare up of the disc issue but was able to manage my way through it without aggravating it further and ending up out of commission. So, I think I have a good sense now of how far I can push myself. Maybe I won't try to lift as heavy as I used to but increase the weight a bit from what I am doing now.

I move rocks around and get buffffff bra.

I had two running goals: to finish Marathon (42195) and "Run around the Earth" (40k km in total during my lifetime)
reply
I'm not on Zwift, but I have been trying out Workit, which is a LN fitness app. I'm only using it for step counting, so far.
They have challenges with sat prizes and some element of social interaction. Today, my first challenge is starting. We each paid in 10k sats and I think it gets divvied up amongst those who walked 10k steps everyday, plus a 300k airdrop.
I had been doing the 100 pushups a day until $100k thing, but my wrist was defeated after about eight months. Now, I'm trying to do 100k steps per week until $100k.

Chess I think I will try to play state level this year
