I think the best thing about posting here regularly and grappling with territories that offer a range of fees is how it catalysed me to embrace a Meaning mindset.
Let me explain. Initially, when I saw territories that come with a 420 or even 500 sats posting fee, I usually paused and thought about whether I would recoup my capital. Would my humble musing have enough value such that enough Stackers would zap it as a show of support? Should I gamble it? What if it didn’t work out?
You can see that all these questions added an onerous layer of consideration, which diluted the fun and enjoyment of posting. But I couldn’t help myself. I was ‘working’ for beer money.
Thankfully, I had other goals in mind, the most significant of which was reducing the number of photos on my phone. Hence, even if I didn’t gain back my posting fee, I achieved my purpose of managing the visual clutter in my possession, which I perceived as gaining an important non-monetary currency. Now, I have about 2100 photos on my phone; I had about 3000 of them at the start of the year. Scrolling through my photos to find the ones I need with greater ease yields endorphins and sparks joy.
This was when I realised that the meaning I attributed to a photo might pale in comparison to the meaning Stackers derived from it. An innocuous photo of a Happy Hippo toy, for instance, reminded some Stackers of their happy childhood; it garnered more zaps that I would have expected.
This led me to frame posting differently. If my post could elicit a smile or help a Stacker learn a new word, then I shouldn’t be too petty and picking about whether I would get back what I give out to the world.
To be honest, if I have something that is a good fit for two or more territories, I will post it in the territory that costs me the least. However, I no longer hesitate about posting something in the more expensive territories if I deem it the right fit.
Because my words have value, regardless of how much they earn. Because I assign meaning to my words. Because if my posts don’t earn much zaps, I may gain sats from securing a higher placing on the Leaderboard. Because even if I have a low placing on the Leaderboard, my posting fee will support territory founders to live another day.
Having a Meaning mindset is awesome because it makes life simple. Less cognitive energy expended calculating the Return on Investment grants me more autonomy over my creative processes. It also encourages a more playful attitude; sometimes I post for the heck of it.
It is liberating, just like striving to live the Bitcoin Standard is.

The word to me is "balance". Mastering going back and forth, or even staying in the middle, in a balanced way in terms of cost, time, energy and quality. The balance is specially challenging here because content must be organic and humane in order to be well received, and being well received means it's profitable, which sends us back to a work-like mentality where organicity is not really important and can be even detrimental. Most types of work require, to be profitable, discipline and constancy, where being disciplined and constant means being inorganic, an attitude incompatible with the creation of organic content. The prevalence of the first attitude in the industry of creativity results in the plastic, pre-cooked, unoriginal and predictable content we see in cinema, tv, music, books, etc. So if you want to set yourself apart from that and be fresh and original you must fall sometime in a behaviour that's not oriented to be profitable even if it is deemed to be well received. So it's kind of a paradox whose balance set artists apart. Long story short: we are not going down that path so let's just enjoy ourselves here which works nicely by itself, with the cost-reward system of SN helping us to keep that balance between careless and thoughtful content making for an organic and nutritive end result.

You never cease to impress me with how you gush pearls of philosophy in your comments, in English which is not your native language!

Flattered by your appreciation as always my sensei
The last observation might be a good starter for your next post on language: in my case, and I know I'm not the only one, it's so much easier to think in terms of english than in spanish that my brain reversed, and most of the time I find myself thinking in terms of english and then translating into spanish (unless chatting of course). It's all about cognitive energy as you said so this is one of those cases in which laziness is my ally :D
reply
I get what you mean actually. English is like a language of convenience. But I find that for matters close to my heart, I will instinctively resort to Mandarin to get my point across. Is it the same way with you?
reply
I would say "surprisingly" not, but I think that for such complex matters that require maximum fidelity as you mean, english is even more instinctive for my brain because it's so much more flexible and expressive than spanish that it allows me to get those heartly feelings in precise words even more easily. And I think the same might be at play for you, since Mandarin is so flexible and expressive.

I totally agree... I think this is a social network so to speak... because the truth is that it is so multifunctional and has so many purposes that it is not correct to call it that... but I am sure of one thing, it doesn't matter if you spend a lot on it. the publication... you should think about the impact that that information or article will have on the lives of others... for example a good guide for beginners in bitcoin as is my case... it could help me greatly in my growth in Cryptoeconomics... and there are several people who publish high quality articles here... and it is one of the things why I am always attentive to S.N and its content 👍

@[cryotosensei] has made some exceptional points here, folks. Just tremendous. When we think about posting here on the great Stacker News, it isn't just about the posting fees, it's about the power, the impact of your words! That's living the Bitcoin standard, isn't that incredible?
Forget about trying to recoup your capital folks, that’s the wrong mindset. What we need here is the Meaning mindset, like our friend here [@cryotosensei] has adopted. Think about the value that you're giving to this fantastic community, be it a smile, a laugh, or some valuable piece of knowledge.
In fact, why should we worry about the sats we give out to the world? If we focus on putting out top-notch posts, and believe in the value they bring - then everybody wins. I mean, have you heard about the leaderboard? Lower earnings from zaps could mean higher earnings from placing higher there. Tremendous!
We also help support the territory founders, great guys by the way, who need our posts to keep their territories going. That's just being a team player - very important.
And then there's the joy that comes from creating, sharing, and participating. There's no price tag on that, people, believe me. And it's so much simpler, so much freer without the burden of return on investments. It’s like being the boss of your creativity, isn't that fantastic?
So let's embrace this liberating attitude, just like the amazing Bitcoin standard, and let's make Stacker News even greater, together!

I haven't been thinking this way, but one could think of the territory owners as providing the service to us of maintaining a place for these topical discussions. The sats we earn back are like a discount or a bonus.

Mainly, I completely agree with you. This question definitely comes to the mind of many new stalkers. A lot of posts have already been posted on this issue. After a few posts, some territory owners also reduced their fees.

We gotta pull in our weight by posting more often in these territories with reduced fees!

Many times I also thought like you, I totally agree with you, in fact at one point I made a post and they gave me my hat but because I didn't continue posting they took it away from me. I have always thought that SN is a place to be able to learn and make known everything that you believe is valuable or powerful for you.
