I posted yesterday about a local meetup I planned to attend:
#650172

Once again, I had a great time. Since this was the second meetup I attended, I'm getting to know a few of the people.

I know I'm repeating myself, but I can't emphasize enough how much I enjoy just socializing with fellow bitcoiners. As we all know, it's not easy to find people to talk to about this stuff among family and friends.

There are a number of meetups in the general NYC metropolitan area, and some of these guys travel long distances to participate in different events. I plan to join this circuit myself.

Each time I go, I learn a lot. It seems like everyone knows something that I didn't have a clue about before I walked in.

That's great, but what's even better, and a little unexpected for me, was the almost immediate camaraderie that develops. Putting all else aside, it's simply a hell of a lot of fun to hang out with bitcoiners.

Thanks once again to our generous host, @Simaan, for sponsoring this event.

How many folks were at the meetup?

reply

Seven. It wasn't as structured an event as last time. More informal and the conversation developed organically. I'm not sure if the feeling is mutual, but I feel like these guys are becoming friends. We are planning to carpool to different events a bit further away in the next few months. There's a lot going on. It's a good network. I'm not sure if that's only because New York City is so big. I wonder if people are seeing this elsewhere?

reply

I should try to coordinate something in my area. I could of course find a meet up in Toronto but that's 2 hours away and there is one for cottage country but they meet about 1.5 hours away from me.

I think I could round up a few people. The guys at walmart I give bitcoin tips to. My neighbour who I am working on orange pilling. Even if we only have a few to start.

reply

It really doesn't take many people. 7 seemed like a good number to me. Any more and then everyone isn't included in the conversation.

reply

It’s good that you’re making new friends! Serves as a balance to your existing ones whom you’re kinda trying to orange pill / dissuade from making bad choices when given the chance

reply

Very true. It's a big contrast. There was a depressing nostr note a week or so ago about a guy who was giving up his friends because he couldn't relate to non bitcoiners/nostriches any more. He didn't enjoy spending time with normies. I'm glad I'm nowhere near that point.

reply

7 is a good number. The meetups in Los Angeles are too big. Like a mini convention. Everyone is trying to sell their company or trying to get hired.

reply

Thanks @siggy47
I've attended one virtual meetup so far. Can you please suggest where to find some virtual meet ups schedule?

reply

Orange Pill app is where I find them. I think there are other sources too, but I don't know of any.

reply

That's ok. I've written it here. Let's see if someone else replies or I would ask it in a post.

reply

The Tampa Bay meetup group has a virtual meetup most Wednesdays. They go over news and then have time for discussion.

reply

Awesome! I hope to meet some Stackers in real life when the stars are all aligned too

reply

I'd suggest a SN in person meetup in Thailand!! 😁

reply

I've also never been there. I think @cryotosensei can join us easily. And may be some of the Stackers living in the Pacific region. I'll come. Maybe can get some others too. like @BitcoinAbhi or @IamSINGLE

You remember, I even had a post about having an all SN meetup in India?

reply

That would be fun! I have never been to Thailand.

reply

There must be plenty of meetups in Singapore?

reply

I wouldn’t know. Parenting two young kids have made me lose my social life haha

reply

Please share some photos without identity. If possible

reply

I took no photos. I don't want to be doxxing anyone.

reply

No problem. I also want to participate in such type of meetup.

reply

That’s absolutely true! In my circle, I don't have anyone to talk to about Bitcoin. 😞

reply

Thank you sir! You motivate me for a lot of things and Bitcoin meet ups are one of them.

I'll also hold one here in India. It may be that I had to start it alone but I'll make sure that I hold the first one in 2024. Then, I'll make it a monthly meetup.

reply

I am interested to meetup in India. will it be?

reply

In NYC I will definitely be stopping by pubkey first thing. That place has strong bitcoiner vibes :)

reply

Thanks for sharing, we are winning, slowly but surely!

reply

I zapped you from the bankless wallet. I'm messing with the new wallet connections.

reply

Melville, New York. Was Moby Dick, in the form of the Great White whale holdr there?

reply

Yes, it was named for Herman Melville. He was born in New York City.

reply

What was the attendance count at the meetup?

reply

Sounds interesting! I’m yet to have a ‘bitcoin Meet Up” experience though. Surely one of these days it will happen.

reply

No wrench was neededd?

reply

You had me thinking. I'm keeping my opsec high from now on.

reply

Just be careful, as more people come, you might get some questionable people.

reply

Wouldn't it be cool if there was a meetup territory to post this in?

reply

I saw the previous post and through that post I can expect this one

Trying to learn something new every time sounds like a great advantage. Your excitement about these meetups is very motivating. Keep it up
