Even though this legislation is just now going into effect its been affecting the European Tech space since before May. This law is bad... plain and simple. The effects of it have been widespread as tech companies have moved their AI development out of the EU to places like the US and UAE.
The pyramid that the EU utilizes includes what it deems "unacceptable-risk AI applications" but one of the issues with this is that if someone takes your data and creates this you are still partially responsible. A blanket ban also is known to harm innovation and if your advisories are going to do this type of research then you are just further behind the curve. Major misfire for the EU that is going to have long lasting side-effects.

I mean companies like Meta are just straight up blocking their LLMs, OpenAI is running into issues as well with antitrust. The biggest telltale sign is the only big AI company to emerge from the EU is Mistral AI and they have been trying to expand in the US in part because of questions surrounding what the EU is doing.

There will always be people that object. But AI does need competition, so its healthy that they are doing different things, with different restrictions.

True! Finding that sweet spot is hard I think they just went way to far one way without looking or reading into what their decisions would lead to! I'm not used to saying or thinking a government moved to fast but in this case… its true!

They probably did go too hard too quickly. But there were things they worried about. One of the new AI started making its own language and talking to each other before they pulled the plug. There are many ways AI could do good and bad.

I think that once again these excessive controls that stifle the processes that are setting the tone for the future are going to work against the EU... and you can clearly see how more and more companies simply emigrate to countries where it is more profitable and more practical to do or implement as many studies or processes for these new technologies... they should leave as much protocol and set their objectives on calling or facilitating companies... and thus calling for more investment...

Yeah it isnt looking good. They are trying to incentives these companies however they cant actually become viable under the extreme circumstances which is what led to U.S. tech becoming the huge player in Europe as it is

What I feel sets them apart is that these companies in the US are well located in the US where as SBF located his outside. The AI for these companies as well is much much much more transparent esp with the data sets because they want people to build upon them thus creating more value in the data sets
