Just saying, it’s very rare for a company to have robust security AND be constantly pushing out new products and features.
Case in point, didn’t proton get hacked a little while back?
Just use cold wallets, people.

Even if it's hacked, your data is e2e encrypted.
Hot wallet is perfectly fine for some use cases.

Yeah, just keep auto updates off. I've heard directly from a self-custody crypto mobile wallet provider that even though it's self custody, they could push an auto update to sign transactions... Can't mention them by name, but there's really nothing unique about them. Third party trust is third party trust.
In the meantime, if the result of a device hack is a compromised keystore, there goes your e2ee.

Depending on how they designed the client keystore access, it might be possible, but that would be an obvious design flaw.
there goes your digital life essentially

wasn't there a BIP recently that was accepted that enabled DNS Name -> BTC Address?
It seems like if wallets adopted that it would massively improve the security footprint....

I consider it to be another tool, but I would not use it to store my savings in it. and I think that this type of simple usability is to attract a new audience, which could impact the price upwards in the medium term 📈

They have a waitlist to access the wallet? Makes me think it’s going to be backed by some centralized server API.
Probably oriented towards new bitcoiners.

I haven't read the post yet, but from another comment here on the thread, it sounds like there's some handling of sending btc to an email address that's probably hosted by proton, so I think that's where the centralized server would come into play? I could definitely be wrong though, and should probably read the article.

Hopefully, the wallet can function without these features enabled.
Sending to email sounds like a great feature! As much as I hate email and love NOSTR, reality is email is still the prominent way to get in touch with people.
They can probably support all email address, but require users to create a Free proton account to claim their bitcoin.

Yes it says both users must have Proton Wallet (not a paid plan though) to use the email feature. It also says they pre-generate a list of receive addresses, signed by a gpg key and uploaded to the server.

not really selling the invite... the fact is that sending DM here on SN cost at least 1 sat. But you're right, I should have used first-arrive-first served approach!

bitcoin-to-email is cool and all, but this is just another proprietary implementation, right? Sender has to have Proton. So it's just like sending Cashapp->Cashapp or Strike->Strike...

Who asked for this? Seriously. I mean, its better than leaving your coins on an exchange, but still, who asked for this? Out of all features they could work on... why this? And this is coming from a Proton premium user.

The story as I understand it, is it is a safety net for them and their users if they are demonetized by stripe, PayPal, etc…. They are introducing it now to protect their future…. And make it super easy for new users who aren’t in the space yet.
