I started using Bitcoin in the last quarter of last year. Though I had previously heard about Bitcoin, I never thought that I could ever own something in the Bitcoin world because it seemed to be some sort of realm for techies. I've never been much of a techie.
I stumbled on one video on YouTube on How to earn free Bitcoin by playing games, which I viewed toward the tail of 2023.Something like that. And it was a tutorial about THNDR's bitcoin games. And I thought I'd give it a try. I downloaded Bitcoin Snake because it reminded me of the famous snake game I played on my Nokia 3310, and started playing. After earning a few sats, I downloaded the Wallet of Satoshi and transferred my first 10-15 sats to that wallet. And I realized it's not that difficult to access Bitcoin.
After that, I started looking for other games and ways to earn free Bitcoins (I didn't know yet that I could buy Bitcoins). I found a few more games and started earning some sats.
That's pretty much how I was introduced to Bitcoin.
But what made me love Bitcoin was stacker news. First I found a website called Publish0x where you can earn ETH and OP by reading and posting articles. There I read an article by @cryotosensei 10 reasons why you should post on Stacker News. This post intrigued me and that's how I came to Stacker News (I'm not sure if I clicked on @cryotosensei's link or if after reading his post I went to Google and searched for the name Stacker News - sorry @cryotosensei if I'm not your referral).
At Stacker News, I found a very welcoming community willing to help me learn more about Bitcoin. I read Bitcoin posts and comments everyday and continue to learn interesting things, even though I post very little about Bitcoin myself due to my limited knowledge.
This is how I came into contact with Bitcoin and fell in love with Bitcoin through Stacker News.
How about you, how did you get involved with Bitcoin and what made you love it?
During covid lockdown i was watching videos on YT about stocks and investments and I saw one with Raoul Paul (lol) in a podcast saying that if he could choose only one investment it would be Bitcoin, that made me think that it was not just funny internet money. Then i also saw Plan Bs chart (lol) , and went from there only based on greed. After a 1/2 months I was already down the rabbit hole and doing self custody and deleted the CB account on my path to be a maxi.

My story's similar to yours, but started about a year earlier.
I had been interested in alternatives to Big Tech platforms. Some of them had their own tokens, which seemed neat. Eventually, I found Fountain, Stacker News, and Zebedee, which got me started on the road to bitcoin only.

my friend and i were talking about billionaires and how does one become a billionaire. we decided that there is no clearly-defined curriculum of how to become a billionaire, and that one has to make his own curriculum from scratch.
so... i downloaded a podcast app, typed in "how to become a billionaire" and stumbled upon "we study billionaires podcast" with preston pysh. after listening for a few weeks, i kept hearing him rave about bitcoin, and the rest is history.

I was working in China, and a friend was coming to visit. I wanted bitcoin, so I told my friend he could have my Chinese money if he would replace it with bitcoin. That's how I wound up with my first sats.
then they went to the moon and I sold all of them like a f* moron. now I'm scraping as many as I can get... but I'll never see those original cheap sats again.

So in 15 years of Bitcoin existence you never heard or even have the curiosity to read the whitepaper (the most important document), trying to understand what is going on.... but you start only driven by greed of earning some meaningless sats playing stupid games.
This is why the majority of people still do not understand what really is Bitcoin and why was created. Most of people think only in earning, gains and getting rich fiat mindset.
This is why we will have even more 50 or 80 years of struggling.... sad, really sad that people do not pay attention to what really matters.

You mean shitcoining... LOL

I'm paying attention now. Better late than never.

I couldn't make this distinction then...

Don't fret. Getting called a shitcoiner by Darth is part of every good bitcoiners journey. Haha.

Did you ever read entirely the Bitcoin whitepaper? https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf
That is all it started. That is a "must read" for anybody, before doing anything else.

first touch point was in 2013 bunch of classmates approached me and asked me to help them buy stuff online, i was confused. just put in your credit card. but they were intentionally vague when mentioning it.
they wanted help accessing what was the Silk Road at the time.
i told them they were dumb and would get caught and i wanted no parts of it.
fast forward 5 years, bitcoin ran to 20k and i had to reflect and say 'what the hell is happening, this made up internet money has 200x in the time since i last saw/heard it'
once i grasped that bitcoin wasn't necessarily going up in value, but everything else was depreciated AGAINST bitcoin as an asset. it all clicked, once you put the bitcoin as the denominator it really started to click for me.
bitcoin forced me to question long held beliefs and thoughts. what is money, is a question that alot of Americans, like myself take for granted.
that question tho led me down a rabbit hole i still havent found my way out of yet

I was exploring new ways of thinking about economics, after graduating with an econ degree and landing a job.
I stumbled upon a book called "Austrian School for investors" (https://www.amazon.com.au/Austrian-School-Investors-Rahim-Taghizadegan/dp/3902639393)
The book is brilliant and walks you through the Austrian business cycle theory, explaining what money is, how it emerges and how credit expansion sows the seeds of its own destruction - amazing book
At the end of the book (or near enough) the authors mention bitcoin
I remember reading it on my train ride home, it was the first time I'd ever heard about bitcoin (cos I live under a rock) and I was like "well that's just obvious"
So that day I bought my first bitcoins, then got confused in 2017 blocksize-war stuff and lost them to shitcoining

I first used bitcoin on Silk Road, but didn't get until a few years ago when I started looking for a new mission.

Silk Road demonstrated that bitcoin is a medium of exchange!
Wikileaks donations in 2010 or 2011, demonstrating resistance to censorship

I came to know about it from one of my acquaintances.

Then, in 2019, I made my first ever contact with Bitcoin. TBH, I did not pay much heed for the details and never bothered about my initial investment in it. The reasons being — first, it was not a very high amount and secondly I wasn't so much interested in it. It was only in 2021 when I came to realise the potential of Bitcoin, albeit price wise. I wasn't orange pilled by any one, I didn't have someone to guide me. In fact, I sold out most of my Bitcoin investment in the first bull run of 2021. But as I had gained some confidence and knowledge about Bitcoin, I started DCAing for it. At first I was stunned due to the volatality but I could understand that the market was plummeting in reaction to all those sad events of 2022. So, I continued with it. I won't lie, I even had a little bit of exposure to some shitcoins, mostly for the staking baits. But, my amount of investment remained so small with them that I could utterly feel happy while seeing them almost buried under the dust. Anyways, middle of 2022, my investment in Bitcoin became considerably high and for the first time I wanted to learn about it a little more deeply. For that I started with some "Bitcoin only YouTube channels and blogs", that sounded like they were trying to impose Bitcoin instead of reasoning for it. (I may be wrong about it, as I was just a noobie then, BTW.)

I was in a dark web class in 2010 and our instructor began ti explain this mystery money to us. It was very confusing and I became disinterested although it made sense. I went down a rabbit hole after another technology course and saw the price had skyrocketed and immediately kicked myself for not buying any back in 2010. In an idiot but glad I made the plunge when I did.
