Someone I know recently put his two-week notice in, and he is making a big life change for a much better opportunity. He sounded so pumped, inspired, happy & excited.
This got me thinking, what is one thing that motivates you to achieve your next level self? While it may be extrinsic to a degree, it is meeting people who inspire me and have found their true purpose/spark. After he told me the news while I was briefly sad he was leaving, I was even further motivated/dialed in to go after what my calling is.
We are all human and on our unique journeys, and seeing people arrive at their ultimate purpose motivates me to my next level! I think because of this news, I hit a PR for myself jogging today through this rush of energy... Powerful stuff

back in the day at my first job at a grocers shop, I'd go in every morning and help put out the days produce. running from back of house to front with boxes of cabbages, carrots, bananas, onions etc. I'd been doing this job for about a year and by this point was makings many times the amount of money i earned here by building and selling flash games. I wanted to quit, but had been putting it off for weeks now, because the boss was kinda scary to 16 year-old me, and I was avoiding the uncomfortable conversation with her. one morning my shoes (for a reason that escapes my memory) were wet. maybe it was raining the day before, or they'd been in the wash. anyway, i slung on some of my stepdads shoes and rushed to work. the shoes felt fine for a few minutes as i walked to work, but quickly they started to cause me a lot of pain. they were two sizes too small and way too tight. by the end of my hour long shift i was in agony, i told my boss without hesitation: I quit. pain can be a powerful motivator.

Love this one. I think pain also can potentially keep people going to work. Pain of the unknown, the what ifs, and the risk.

Mostly that motivation is something I can control. If motivation is the only thing between me and a goal, not having motivation will stop me from reaching my goal. By motivating myself, it removes one controllable thing that could stand in the way.

For me it's always been about how can I reach my absolute pinnacle of athleticism. I think everyone would benefit from finding an athletic activity or sport that challenges them to progressively reach new levels within their physical and mental capacity. And keep track of your progress over the course of years. The last four years I spent training my sprint speed, and I have gone from sprinting at a top speed of 18 mph to 20mph, and I am confident I will crack above 20mph soon enough. Thus, every time I hit a certain target or milestone, I am further motivated to continue my progress. And to engage in something like sprinting fast, it is a constant learning experience and also very humbling experience as it reminds you day in day out that you are only human, not some super robot. But at the same time, it's such an amazing feeling to see yourself progress over time because it becomes your proof of work, and when you conquer these feats you feel that much more empowered and confident to take on the next challenge in life.

feeling to see yourself progress over time Love that, as a runner also I completely agree with the feeling. I always am trying to find ways to improve (no matter how small). Difference is I'm in long distance running, but day after day of practice - the results become marginally improved!

i recognized that in order to make further progress in educating my family, friends, as well as newbie bitcoiners, i have to work on myself and learn more and faster than ever before. i have to learn to chip away at their diseased psyche from multiple angles. that means not sucking at anything and being good at something. all roads lead to the righteous life, so i hope to help them navigate via as many roads as possible.

It's true, seeing people we know make an important life choice gives the impetus to question the way we live our lives. It's not easy to change everything, but it is much worse to leave things as they are if they don't make us happy.

Worst part is when a dead end job, hangs a 40% bonus March/April of the next year. Sunk cost fallacy says the more months you put in, mine as well stay until the end of year, a hard trap to break out of.

I think that as a teacher, I bounce off ideas and energy from my students. So, some of my students are interested to become councillors. I threw them a challenge - read the first chapter of a book and come out with 3 takeaways. Watching them rise to the occasion makes me want to give my best!

Love it! I can see education brining alot of fulfillment and joy in ones life. As a former tennis coach, it took alot of patience, but also working through their weaknesses to make their forehand/backhand strokes better.
