States like California emulate many European governments (the worst parts, not the good things1). Then most states in the US emulate California, though most are in denial of this.
So this should be expected. What is frustrating to me is that so few seem to see this pattern and on top of that when a European nation starts to change course, instead of looking at that action the US continues down the same path.
Its almost like politicians aren't interested in outcomes but rather elections and power. They have very little to lose and mountains to gain.

  1. By good things I mean when governments roll back bad polices like Sweden did when it tried full blown socialism. It was a disaster and it rolled it back. Still not ideal but it seems politicians are willfully ignorant of the mistakes made in Europe.
