I love these LoRa devices. Even with default equipment I have pinged off of nodes 97 miles from me a few times a day.

this is such a cool little device!

Interesting project. I didn't remember the pagers, good times. Thanks!

Do people still use pagers today?

I would look at this like a retro looking device with new features. The biggest being these "pages" are out of band to wifi/cell networks. Being able to send/receive encrypted communications without wifi/cell is pretty great. Plus very cheap hardware with really good performance. Some people might like those features or just exploring . I for one would be interested in pushing some NOSTR notes over LoRa network

I already have enough beeps in my day. I dont need something else beeping at me.
reply
Very true.
I somehow tell myself each time that this will help me consolidate the things competing for my attention.
reply
Would it consolidate or just provide more distractions. Sure, if I wasnt using a cellphone I might need a pager, but I dont need both.
reply
This wouldn't consolidate, it would just add another layer of beeps. It would also add another device to carry and charge. something else to check firmware on and all of that. It solves a very narrow use case.

Anyone played with mqtt servers? feels like nostr + LoRa = useful stuff

I recently setup a couple nodes near me and found that someone that works in or close to the county sheriff office has a few nodes setup. Very curious if its an official disaster network or if its some contraband network. One seems mobile. so I am going to try to get eyes on this operator
