Hi All - Just curious about everyone's thoughts and views as it comes to the future of work and Bitcoin. These topics (work - increased efficiency through AI/productivity tools & bitcoin - harder money not losing value over time through debasement).
Historically, the 40-hour work week was introduced through the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). With technology making us much more efficient at our jobs, and the potential of deflationary money, for the average Jane & Joe worker in the future on a Bitcoin standard, how many hours can you see them working a week?
In my opinion, I can see the work week getting cut in half (or even becoming more contract & gig-based), and also individuals not working until 65 if we move on a Bitcoin standard. The marriage of increased technological capabilities alongside hard money can help the worker of the future spend more time on free activities, while also not having to slave away the golden years of their life. What are your thoughts on work in the future? Do you think we will see work hours reduce, and people retire earlier due to harder money? I'd love to hear some thoughts here!
I, too, think people will work less, 20 h / week sounds about right for the nearest future. But eventually that will drop further, and there will be a general trend towards a gig economy.
People will also retire earlier, but when we work less and enjoy it more, we may just not want to retire.
I see the future of work as monetizing what we enjoy - our hobbies and passions.

I like that, people want to add value of some kind to the economy. Watching TV, playing games, etc - isn't progressing civilization forward.

In the fiat world people work full time or double full time jobs just to make ends meet and put food on the table. In the sound money system people work less and have a lot of free time for hobbies to relax or invent new technologies (e.g., aviation from the Wright brothers). Progress is about increasing the output while decreasing the input, a broken money system designed to steal your time gives you the opposite

Productivity = output/input
I said this to a friend last week

It depends if people working for bitcoin have the same kind of enthusiasm as we do today. If they're still trying to accumulate enough sats, they might work 2 jobs to achieve their goal.

Right, I think alot of it is relative. Hopeful for a future where people don't need to slave 40 hours away in a cubicle to make ends meet, rather 20 hours a week will get them a good enough life.

I think i will never retire... Life is so interessting i am always learning... And you cannot learn without "testing" it practically and this, in my opinion, is called working. No matter if you get 1$ or 100$ per hour... (Or even zero, when its about teaching the kids! Because there is nothing better an old wise man can do!)
