Do you think heā€™s an important intellectual figure currently ? Could he be an asset to the Bitcoin community?
A few of my thoughts straight off the top of my head.
Although I donā€™t agree with him on everything, heā€™s generally likeable, well informed and heā€™s been an important contributor to current mainstream discourse.
Iā€™d say he was naive and too slow on the uptake with Covid but now basically gets it.
I like his take on the gender identity and transitioning debate and Iā€™m glad heā€™s weighed in on climate change and Net Zero.
I donā€™t agree with his take on Israel Palestine from what Iā€™ve seen. I might be wrong but it seems one sided?!
I did like the podcast he did with Saifdean Ammous and he appears to be open to Bitcoin if not already invested.
Lastly he appears to represent the traditional conservative right. Is that playing into current divisions and maintaining elite control over the left vs right paradigm?
He could do with toning it down on Twitter. He doesnā€™t do himself any favours. šŸ˜‚
He was important
reply
That's how I feel too. He's become a pretty uninteresting conservative influencer, but he had been one of the most interesting public intellectuals.
reply
Nothing wrong in that, in this war between digital Bolsheviks and their technocratic owners getting in ONE good punch and then survive is a real feat!
reply
Yes thatā€™s a fair perspective. Who do you think is currently coming to the fore?
reply
i like him, he's an intelletual
reply
important intellectual figure
yes.
currently
no.
asset to the Bitcoin community?
his efforts to present philosophical content were impressive, and i think worth studying. the bitcoin community has its asset already. pop-cultural figures are a weak link... imagine connecting Bitcoin to a xanax addict.
reply
For the most part, Peterson earns money from conservatives. You donā€™t bite the hand that feeds you. For that reason, he is mistaken for a right winger. I think of him somewhere in the middle.
Could he be an asset to the Bitcoin community?
Nah! He seems to possess high level of hypocrisy.
reply
His older long-form stuff has been extremely important in saving a lot of people from the trappings of the world.
To be caught up in his day-to-day influencer status is missing the forest for the trees.
Even if you are against organized religions as they have been corrupted, his biblical series is a must watch.
The lessons he articulates from scripture are the original open-source repository that's been starred by billions over thousands of years. You can watch it and still virtue signal your scientism because he's not a preacher giving a sermon, it's delivered academically as well-accepted psychology theory that helps even the most egocentric cope with their inadequacies.
reply
Yeah absolutely I enjoyed his biblical series.

I am not really a fan but there are worse influencers for young men (which seems to be his target audience) to listen to.
reply
I think he's one of the best influencers for the "young men" topic. Why? Because he's reflected and open to multiple different perspectives and opinions. Most other influencers that touch the "young men" topic are garbage. Populism for insecure people. šŸ¤”
reply
Are you implying I am a clown or suggesting other influencers are clowns?
reply
I'm calling influencers that exploit insecure people with oversimplified populist solutions clowns. Because that's what they are šŸ¤£šŸ¤£
reply
Gotcha. That's what I thought but I wanted to make sure.
reply
I used to like he's stuff when I was more black pilled, bought the books, sifted through all his yapping and he had a few takes I found valuable, but like everyone on the net they are just chasing the incentives, and can't see how it's moulding them into being polarising at all costs
He's old stuff has some merits, but SM eventually dilutes you toward zero if you don't quit it, lol haven't listened to him in years
reply
I think he was important in the sense that the generation that looked to him, were looking for a daddy mentor. Someone to show them how to get through life. Anyone could have said it in plain words, but for some reason humanity has a tendency to put extra importance on things when basic information is wrapped in metaphors and flowers. Tickles a "wow" receptor or something.
But yeah I'm going to agree with @ways_wilderness his name in popularity seems mostly lost these days.
reply
He's a charlatan disguised as a psychologist disguised as ascientist.
reply
He is OK, always like to hear an intelligent opinion, even if its wrong sometimes... lol
reply
He seems to draw a lot of attention to himself. Especially with those weird suits.
reply
He is like Ben Shapiro.
reply
Interesting because it goes against the mainstream, especially for an academic, but rather shallow thinking on most topics and it doesn't get better with increased popularity
reply
Paterson is a self obsessed person, IMO.
reply
He was effective once but noe his popularity and worth both are decreasing.
reply
I think he is an important figure, and a great access point to many normies!
I do think he is pretty opinionated on many things, but those things I tend to agree with him on. Would love to see him on more podcasts with Bitcoiners to be honest!
We do need more bitcoiners to interview normal people - this is how you grow audiences, and potentially bitcoin adoption.
reply
There's great content from him before covid.
reply
He is completely wrong about online anonymity. He's good on a few things, but they are mostly common sense stuff anyway.

I donā€™t disagree but it still cracks me up. šŸ˜‚
