Inflation is the surest way to trigger a Pavlovian response from politicians, whereby they blame monopolists, middlemen, greedy entrepreneurs, profiteers, and price gougers.
This type of Advil politics, where the government attempts to treat the symptoms instead of the underlying causes of inflation, comes with costly unintended consequences.
I like that term: advil politics.
Its wild to me how often the news reminds me of Atlas Shrugged.

Galt's Gulch, baby!
That's how I think about the parallel economy and institutions that we're building.

Yep, same here. Some change their minds and think. Most just float. Build better systems. If ideology is your plan to win you will lose. This is one reason bitcoin is hopeful. Its why it must work.

The biggest monopoly of all is the state. I enjoy bringing this up when people start complaining about monopolies.

What's the alternative? Taking responsibility?
I remember reading that it was becoming normal in California to require 6 months rent upfront, because it's so difficult to evict someone. With the prevailing rents, your looking at tens of thousands of dollars up front, just to get into a rental.

So few ever look at the negative side of some state action. The unintended consequences. I used to think that politicians just didn't think it through. Now I think its more sinister. They don't care. They pay no price. The just manipulate things shift the blame to their benefit.
reply
Exactly. Even if/when they understand what the consequences will be, it doesn't change anything. That's just not the game they're playing.

The game is getting money and votes. They have little skin in the game.

There are a lot of factors. Property taxes have skyrocketed. Insurance rates are through the roof. HVAC costs have probably doubled over the past 5 years. Maintenance costs... the list is endless. It's because of money printing.

The truth is that inflation is a resource of the capitalist political masses... as a method of defense and of perpetrating and extending their way of life at all costs... at the expense of the poor and lower classes... without anyone being able to do anything. or almost nothing in the face of an armored and unpunished system..
reply
Its really weird. Half the politicians sleep in their office. Kind of disgusting, to tell you the truth.

What I know about Advil is related to medicine. Can't find how it relates to politics. I can understand this is indicating corruption (may be). It definitely provides temporary relief and does not eradicate the problem..

With a society with so many drug commercials on the tv, it is the new slang i'll be using with my friends. Throwing band aids and blame on the worlds biggest issues.
reply
This is all because of demand and supply.
