Yeah k00b was actually zapping people 100 sats as a default zap amount in those days and everyone else was zapping 1 sat and I felt real brave because I raised my zap amount to 15 sats lmao
Yeah. At this point it's clear that few people zap a lot. The way to actually scale SN is to get more people instead.
reply
The push to get people from 1 or 2 sats up to 10 or 20 was pretty successful. However, getting people to go much higher has been like tilting at a windmill.
The problem with scaling is that we haven't been able to accomplish that either.

You mean in number of users?
reply
Yeah, if you look at the analytics page, you'll see that the number of stackers and spenders has been declining lately.
reply
Just now I was looking at the analytics, and a little more than 10 users registered today, I think it's little, I'm realizing that the people who zap are getting less and less, I zap like crazy but I don't see reciprocity sometimes, I've been in SN for 1 year, I'm not an OG, but I remember better times in terms of zapping.
reply
I'm really not sure what happened, but it coincided with MSM, which did rub a lot of people the wrong way.
reply
Maybe it had something to do with it... I also think that more posts related to zapping should be opened, to educate new ones, since zapping is one of the cornerstones of Stacker.news.
reply
That's what I was trying to do with this post: #561854.
I'm all for other people trying to reinforce the message.

But what's the reason for drifting away, for bothering to change daily rewards for a couple of months? or because they liked that format and don't want to continue participating with daily rewards? I don't quite understand it.
Need to look at the active users stats for the year really
Yes, that's what I was talking about. It's actually pretty dramatic.
One note is that they made a tweak during MSM that was intended to discourage bots and other low-quality sat farmers.
reply
Yes, last year in June there were about 856 registrations, now we have more than half a month and we have about 300, we are going at a slower pace even though SN is larger than last year.

There was a lull in the spring and summer last year. My hope is that it is just a seasonal fluctuation. Obviously, it's too early to know that, but this did happen last year too.
How could I know that?
I suspected that KR left SN, I don't know what happened there.
reply
Even when I joined, the norm was still 1 sat zaps.
That may have even still been the case when @grayruby finally joined Stacker News.
reply
Yeah I'm like why is grayruby calling me an OG I've seen their nym around forever, but then I look and its like November 2022 and I'm May 2022 and I'm like well alright I guess I was on here for a couple of months before them....lmao
reply
I feel the same way. All of you who were already here when I started reading and posting feel like a different class of stacker.
reply
Well you picked up on the techniques pretty quick and improved on them.
I had a few well structured articles before, but I stopped because I need to actually build myself more lol.
Like I'm going to continue the altnet series....when I get setup demonstration done, which I can't do yet because I need to hit the books hard on RedHat for career reasons, but even then I think I might focus on learning flakes because I feel that's really important (probably more important than a hypothetical altnet that no one seems to have a need for right now)
Maybe I'll write an article about getting your shit together when you have too many ideas and not enough time to do it all lmao.

Haha. Make that a top priority.

So if I've been here for 1 year and 1 month am I an OG? Hahaha, I'm just kidding
