Why do you need to boost your post on Stacker News?
I have seen Stacker News as a platform where value comes first. If you believe that your post brings value to the SN community, then why should you boost the rankings by paying? The post, because of the content itself, will rank very high soon after it is posted. I have seen that stackers have become very experts at identifying a good valuable post by zapping and engaging with that post.
Why then is it necessary to boost your post by paying?
Am I missing something about this feature?
I understand the boost feature as it is used in other fiat-based social media platforms, where you pay to boost your post with the intention of selling the product you are marketing, even if that product may be useless, because the boosted post can reach many people, which increases the chance of selling the product.
I strongly believe that this is not the case with this feature here on SN. The good content does not need a boost, imo. The bad content will not be zapped even if it is ranked high by paying a boost, always imo.
So what is the role of the boost feature in Stacker News?

Personally, I take note of post which are boosted vs not boosted.
My thinking: If someone has spent Sats to boost an post there is a decent chance it could be urgent. Made Up Example: " @Car has been assaulted by @k00b for drinking the last beer during weekly SNL. "

Future SN Feature Request:

I would like the ability to boost an post after the 10 minute edit period. As mention by @Undisciplined post can get buried and being able to throw some additional Sats at a post would be helpful in my opinion. As shown in @OneOneSeven post. Might also help prevent re-posting of the same topic.

If you were launching a product or service related to Bitcoin, you would probably want to boost the post to ensure you got maximum visibility.

I see it as wanting to make sure people see your post. Sometimes stuff gets buried, so you might want to make sure that doesn't happen to a particularly important (to you) post.

Putting it this way, it makes more sense.

They can be useful to founders since they're essentially half price:
Can Territory Owners Earn Sats?
Yes, territory owners earn 50% of all fees generated by content in their specific territory. This means territory owners earn 5% of all sats zapped within their territory, as well as 50% of all sats paid as boosts or posting costs within their territory.
