Pasterization was only needed after big farms took over form small family farms, concentrating huge numbers of animals in one place and enableing things like tuberculosis to thrive.

A socialist would tell you that starvation is part of the sacrifice for "the greater good". You'd get nothing, and die of hunger, like the hundreds of millions under Mao and Stalin.
