Misconceptions.
I’ve been pondering the reward system and it’s affect on our decision making.
For the longest time I believed that in order to top the list you had to be a contributor to the site in more ways than just zapping and commenting.
As time went on, and after much discussion among the stackers. I felt I had a better grasp on what is required to climb the ladder.
Zap/post/comment “quality” content.
I did see my name jump the rankings. Yet, it all felt impersonal, rigid, stagnant.
Especially the conversation.
Quality content means something a little different for each of us.
I assumed (I think a lot of us do) that if I zap/post/comment factual information regarding the interests of the site it would be regarded as quality content and lead to more sats.
While this is true, it is not the deciding factor.
Purely by accident I hit the number 8 spot yesterday. I was in a bad mood due to my misconceptions and I let it fester.
1 post. 35 comments. 500 more sats stacked than spent. Nothing special. Most of the conversation centered around my bad mood and outbursts.
This site is about quality conversation, not posting what you think your fellow stackers would like to read (although it helps)
Three things:
-
Zap the things you like, and don’t be shy.
-
Foster discussion. The more comments you receive, zap, and respond -the more you will be trusted.
-
Don’t let your misconceptions rule your mind like I did.
