I think the Magic added him for extra perimeter shooting around Dwight Howard. They had just reached the finals the previous year, but got cooked by the Lakers 4-1. They were running it back with the same core, but fell short to Boston in the ECF.
They've had a rough go of trying to build contenders: Penny blew out his knee, Grant Hill's surgeon almost killed him, Dwight's just a huge weirdo.
Maybe they'll have better luck with this current squad.

Fun Fact: My wife's niece was a big Lakers fan as a kid and she became a Dwight Howard fan when he was an all star for the Lakers back in 2012. Even though he only played there a year before moving on to Houston she named a puppy she got Dwight Howard. It's a 3lb Chihuahua.
She is grown up now but dog is still alive and she kept the name. She named her next dog Athena. Probably a better choice. Haha.

That's hilarious

I put it on the Magic organization to have drafted Shaq but was not able to keep him there. To draft a generational talent and only keep him for 4 years is just horrible, no excuses.
I do like to looks of the current squad though. Banchero already plays great and still has great potential to grow. The young guys surrounding him are good players too. If they don't mess it up again, this squad might have some success in the post season a few years down the road.

Do you remember when Shaq tore down the whole backboard.
reply
I’m not sure if I remember that from when it happened or just from seeing it replayed for the past 30 years.
I think they had to substantially redesign NBA hoops because of him.
reply
Wow that really was over 30 years ago. I must be old. Feels like yesterday.

It’s wild how that works. Talking to a kid today about Shaq is like someone talking to us about Wilt.

Considering they haven’t shot well from 3, Dallas has to be pretty happy down 1 going to the 4th on the road. This is where Minny’s D really locked in against Denver in game 7.
reply
Agreed. I thought Minny's D would lock them down better. Kyrie also did not wait until the 4th to light it up. Maybe Ant's post game interview in game 7 calling Kyrie out like that poked the bear?
Luka heating up. Minny might be in trouble.
Ouch

Dallas is scoring more on Minny D than I thought they would.
