Did you know...?Did you know...?

Africa occupies all 4 Hemispheres (Northern, Southern, Western, Eastern)

It's not obvious that Africa is in the SW hemisphere. Assuming there is an island there?

reply

I guess the map needed some work to be more clear.
A hemisphere is half a sphere. SW hemisphere does not exist.

There are two lines that create the 4 hemispheres:

  • The Equator Line (in red).
    • Everything SOUTH of the equator line is in the Southern Hemisphere.
    • Everything NORTH of the equator line is in the Northern Hemisphere.
  • The Prime Meridian, a.k.a. the Greenwich Meridian (in blue)
    • Everything EAST of the PM is in the Eastern Hemisphere
    • Everything WEST of the PM is in the Western Hemisphere

I get it. My observation was more along the lines that Africa has land in both the Eastern and Western half of the Northern hemisphere, but only occupies land in Eastern half of the Southern hemisphere. But your initial observation that Africa occupies territory in all 4 hemispheres is spot on.

The North Pole is a city in AlaskaThe North Pole is a city in Alaska

The North Pole exists outside of Christmas movies and stories — it’s a festive little town just outside of Fairbanks, Alaska. Complete with year-round decorations and streets called “Santa Claus Lane” and “Kris Kringle Drive”, it’s a must-see if you love Christmas!

Indeed, and they actually answer childrens' letters to Santa there.

reply

Yes, truly amazing and a lively-lovely Christmas spot.

... if we stack all golden coins ever produced by humanity in the thousands of years it has been making golden coins we would end up with a tall pile of coins that could easily be tipped over?

might seem like a tall tale, but when you wake up in the morning, you're actually a tiny bit taller than you were when you went to bed. This is due to the pressure put on joints throughout the day.

As you go about your activities, this pressure causes the cartilage in your spine to compress—just fractions of an inch, but enough to push everything down. As you relax in your sleep, it eases the pressure on your spinal disks, thus allowing you to return to your full height.

In "Raiders of the Lost Ark," there's this well known scene where Indiana Jones faces a skilled swordsman (who performs an impressive display of swordsmanship).
Instead of engaging in a difficult fight, Indy just shoots him.
The scene wasn't in the original script. Harrison Ford was suffering from dysentery at the time and couldn't perform the scheduled choreographed fight, so he improvised by pulling out his gun and shooting the swordsman instead. The director, Steven Spielberg, loved it and kept it in the film. It turned into one of the most iconic and humorous moments in the series!

Very nice.

Here is one from my 13 year old:

The original Donkey Kong video game actually started as a Popeye the Sailor Man project but Nintendo failed to secure the license for Popeye and created Donkey Kong (and thus Mario) instead.
