a decade ago i got hooked on grip training. i found out that grip strength correlates very well with overall health. my standard is CoC (Captain of Crush) grippers. when deadlift was a routine exercise, it was easy to train the grip. i was able to to close 2.5 (250 lbs) on occasion, and now slipped below 2.0 (200 lbs). today i use a a cool graduated gripper from Ivanko, with multiple levels, as well as climb rocks and trees. i hope to one day close the CoC 3.0 gripper.
one day i might have the strength to rip out a clavicle like Rambo in "Last Blood" and crush any walnut one-handed.

Nice. How would you recommend getting started?

  • when carrying things (e.g. gym plate) try pinch grip
  • relax/flex the grip when carrying a regular handle
  • hang on door frame for fun
  • learn to tear apples in half
have fun and don't take training too seriously i.e. do not overtrain. it's a journey not a destination.
