Back in 1967, bacon was 84 cents a pound, a dozen eggs were 49 cents, and the Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup. A lot has changed since then: Nixon's shock, the rise of the petro dollar, wars, The Great Financial Crisis, and covid. Through it all, there's one thing we could always count on, year in and year out: The Maple Leafs will suck. They haven't won a Stanley Cup since then, despite many attempts to buy a team, favorable treatment from the zebras, and a fawning hockey press. So, here at SN, we announce our first Maple Leafs Choke-A-Thon.

The Rules

The rules are simple: The NHL has four seven game playoff series. Select which round and game that you believe the Maple Leafs will be eliminated. Example: Round 1, Game 4 (bold choice).
Selections are due before the puck drop of the first game of the Leaf's first round.

Rewards

I will zap the winner all of the sats from this post, along with all of the sats from my prior post, where I came up with this brilliant idea. #507924
I will also give a 5000 sats bonus to anyone bold enough to correctly pick the Leaf's to lose four straight in the first round, getting swept and humiliated, and making this guy cry:
I will also zap @kr 5000 sats in the unlikely event that pigs start to fly and the Leafs win the cup.
Good luck to all.

i promise to spend those 5000 sats wisely, go leafs!

Did anyone have leafs out in 5?
How about those Islanders?
reply
I don't think anyone had them out in 5. I'm glad the Isles won, but I'm afraid it's just delaying the inevitable.
reply
I think our resident hockey fans @BlokchainB and @BTC_Bellzer will want in on this action.

Yes thanks for the tag
Round 1, game 5
reply
I nominate this for SN post of the year!
Round 1 Game 6.
6 goals in elimination game.
reply
I thought this would be a good territory marketing post in hockey forums: "Earn Bitcoin for predicting when Leafs choke!"
reply
Haha definitely and will piss off many Leafs fans even if the marketing effort isn't successful.

Haha, thanks for making this fun post Siggy. Your hate for the Leafs is no joke. Despite the resources they get and the size of market they own, they still manage to fuck it up year after year. Kudos to the Leafs organization for their ability to fuck things up? I don't have any beef with the Leafs and feel quite indifferent to them, but I believe in their ability to fuck things up until proven otherwise.
Of course the Bruins are going to sweep them. Round 1, game 4, Bruins complete the sweep winning game 4 with a commanding 4-1 finish (5 goals total).

Bold call! You're eligible for the 5k bonus.

@siggy47 you cold blooded for this post πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
I say round 2 Game 6
reply
Tie breaker? How many goals by both teams in that game?

Yo πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Round 2, game 6.
I have no idea why I have so much faith in them this year, but making it deep into Round 2 is pretty much their version of going all the way.
reply
Sorry. I forgot to include the tie breaker. Pick total goals scored in elimination game.
reply
5 (assuming total is combined between the teams).
reply
I was thinking of making this exact pick. I'll have to change it up for some variety. Who knows how many contestants we'll get?
reply
Great minds, etc.
reply
I would go with @kr. Comeon leafs!!!
reply
@kr is special. You need to make a pick as to what game they win the cup, and a tie breaker, to be included. Of course it would be round four, so pick game and total goals scored by both teams in the game.
reply
I thought, you were asking for what game they get eliminated?
I'm confused πŸ€” or you?
reply
You are picking them to win the cup, right? I didn't think anyone would do that. So, in that case, state that you pick them to win, then pick the game, then pick total goals.
reply
I pick them to win for sure, my total goals would be 5.
But how can I conclude the game? Doesn't NHL have a final like we have in Cricket league. Can you please suggest me a rule book for NHL?
reply
I don't know of a specific rule book, but here's how the playoffs work: There are four rounds. Each round is "best of seven." That means whichever team wins four games wins that series. So, you might say " Leafs win the cup in 6 games." Or 5,4,or 7. I hope this explains it.
reply
Round 3, gane 6, total goals 7.
Is that okay πŸ†— now?
reply
If you think the Leaf's will win the cup, it has to be in round four, game 4 or later.
I forgot to include a tie breaker: Total goals scored by both teams in elimination game.
