pull down to refresh

After a successful trial run on last week's covers post, and I thank you all, we're back and better than ever...or at least as good as the original...errr paying homage.
So to close out March let's get a little madness in here. Post your originals and covers that you play when you're a little mad, or you're mad they covered that track, or your bracket is busted and you want to rage.
I'll be busy but will check back in when I can.

Keith Urban - Wichita Lineman Acoustic

One of my all time fave artists playing a song that's been my favourite since I was knee high.

Gentle On My Mind - The Band Perry

The Band Perry here doing a fabulous cover of Glen Campbell's Gentle On Your Mind

Really good cover of a really good song! I wasn't a fan of their pop albums, but some of their country was good. I think I heard something about Kimberly transitioning back to country music again after the group went on hiatus, so maybe we'll get some more.
reply
Yes, it's a great cover, they really do it justice. I really liked their first couple of albums, then there was the "Stay in the Dark" single, which was the start of their transition to pop. Unfortunately I think that was a bad move. They didn't have the large support base of the likes of Taylor and Keith Urban which would go with them. Then, nothing. I did hear that they went back to country music and playing smaller shows as they tried to work their way back up. It's such a shame as they were on a really good trajectory with those first two albums. I did see on their wiki page recently that Kimberley (on her own) had done some new music and a follow up to If I Die Young. I've still got to hunt that out.

The type of pop they were doing was not something I liked, so I had stopped listening after the transition. I have all of the country in my collection though. Hopefully they'll be back with some more!

What are good examples of country phase vs pop
reply
These two were a couple that I like from their country era.

All Your Life

Don't Let Me Be Lonely

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_3czgSzH7Cc These are from their pop era.

Stay in the Dark

Marfa Prada

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uCT7JlHbO08 I've got nothing against the group for experimenting, but the last two just aren't the type of music I enjoy!
Don't yell at me for this one, I like the Crüe and country music, so I'm apparently one of the few people that liked the tribute album! Justin Moore's Home Sweet Home cover is another of my favorites.

Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away) - Mötley Crüe

Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away) - Eli Young Band

reply
I can't hate it. It's good. Really cool to switch with the Crue sound and the eli young sound.

The original version already had a little bit of a country lean to it, so I think it transitioned well. That song is from a whole album of covers from different artists under the Big Machine label, and some of them did a really good reimagining of the original. Aaron Lewis from Staind did a country version of Afraid that I really liked, and I wasn't a fan of the original!
reply
Aaron Lewis is really really talented. I love his sound.
Speaking of acoustic stripped backed covers did you ever hear the wasted years cover on the "tribute to the beast" album a tribute to iron maiden? So different and amazing at the same time.
carved in trees
reply
I didn't hear that album yet, but I'm going to check it out! I like Iron Maiden, and that acoustic cover sounds great!
reply
Tribute to the beast was fantastic. Machine heads cover of hallowed by thy name was great. But that carved in trees version of wastes years was something else.

Bowes & Morley - I Can't Stand The Rain

Danny and Luke covering Ann Peebles 1974 classic and as usual doing it justice and a half.

I stumbled across Halocene a couple years back. Addie has got some incredible vocals and their music is always brilliant.
reply
I always love Chevelle and their shows are so good it would be impossible for me to vote against them, but having never heard of Halocene before I will definitely dig into them, thanks

They do some phenomenal covers.
That "unholy" track is awesome in their style. https://youtu.be/GBEU9tE8X_E?si=egfWAGnCOmT9xcdw See what ya think
reply
Who does the original of this?
reply
I much prefer the Halocene version.
reply
I agree for so many reasons
Both of these bring something different.

Seeing modern day Wes Borland is a real trip
reply
I'll bet drugs age really caught up 😉. Allegedly.

reply
Tbf if I recall correctly, Wes actually was clean the whole time. There was an interview where I think, if I remember right, he put the interviewer back in their place after they made assumptions on drug usage.

I love that nonpoint version. I got to see them live in a really small.venuenin my home town. They were brilliant.
reply
I wish they could keep a lineup together
reply
Yeah, tis a shame. They've produced some fantastic music.
