After some discussion on the idea with @Public_N_M_E and a lot of delay, here we are with our initial "Covers Post" (but without a day of the week or a name). So post your original and cover links, what do you like / dislike and check out a few more while you're here. What should we call this anyway?

Ooooo blues traveller. Fantastic! I always enjoyed "maybe I'm wrong"
reply
Nice cover there \m/
reply
Nice Nym.
Leonard Cohen covers are pretty much their own genre (and I almost went with Concrete Blonde's "Everybody Knows"), but "Closing Time" is not one of the usual suspects. His original. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-0lV5qs1Qw
Fairport Convention's cover, which I enjoy just a touch more, to be honest. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duTarbJNcTg
reply
Oooo that's a great cover.
Man I am loving this thread. So many wonderful interpretations and homages to some fantastic songs.
reply
I have never heard this cover. I would still take Leonard's version but this is fun.

Fairport Convention
It's been years since I last listened to them. Thanks for bringing back fond memories!
reply
You're welcome! Note that this is FC without either Sandy (of course) or Richard.
reply
What genre would these fall under?
I think I like the cover more \m/
reply
Completely missed this comment earlier -- sorry! I'd say folk or folk-rock, though the lines can often blur a bit.

reply
I imagine this is pretty close to what AI would give me if I asked for a Britney Spears x Metal x Cookie Monster track \m/
reply
About right
reply
That's wild. Are you familiar with the band Green Jelly? They do comedy metal and have done a few versions of nursery rhymes as metal songs. This reminded me of them.
reply
I haven't heard of it, but I'll give it a listen. I'm not really into metal... but if it's funny, I might even enjoy it. Haha.

I knew the Eurythmics and Manson but Ministry's was new to me as was this one until just now \m/
reply
Nice one
reply
I had no idea Weezer did a cover of sweet dreams. This is cool.
reply
Oh wow! I didn't know Weezer did this.
Well serve me up a portion of pork and beans for that oversight.
reply
Wow went Ministry instead of Marilyn Manson here. Interesting. I like it.
Should I post Sepultura doing Just One Fix?
reply
:) I knew there was a Manson cover, and I even like it more than Ministry's. The idea was really to share extremes. :) Wait until I share the next one.
reply
Great. I like the approach.
reply
You and me are gunna get on real good. Real real good.
reply
Yes. The answer is yes! I love sepultura!

Therr Maitz - Wicked Game (Chris Isaak Cover)
reply
The harmonies that compliment the falsetto on I are beautiful. I am jealous.
reply
They were impeccable.
reply
Great version there and unfortunately currently relevant to me but here's my additions
reply
I'd hoped someone was gunna bring the Corey Taylor version...
Beautiful song.
reply
Damn both these are good.
reply
Submission from Mama Pub.
Vs
reply
Both good. I love how drastically different they are. You have a soul version and an 80s pop version.
reply
She's quite a fan of the Communards 🀣🀣 unfortunately for both mum and dad I've screen shared my phone to the TV. And we're listening to everything in this thread.
And loving all of it.
reply
If she likes that 80s pop sound she will like the one I just posted.
reply
Oooooo crowded house. That's a really strong submission.
It's close and that cavo cover is absolute πŸ”₯ but I think she's leaning with her loyalties towards crowded house.
I prefer the cavo cover personally, that's fantastic. That falsetto flip was flawless, absolutely nailed it.
reply
When I was playing it to test to make sure the link and video were working my daughter said "I like that song"
So I started singing it and said "do you want me to play that song on guitar"
She replied "NO"
reply
Gunna have to hear you play GR...
Speaking of.. when I finally work out how to get an audio file onto SN... I can finally give @siggy47 a version of Coinkite blues. (No I hadn't forgotten I'm just incompetent, and want to do a better version now I don't sound full of cold)
reply
I almost forgot about that! I'm looking forward to it.
What is it about drastically different covers that almost always makes it fun or is it just me?
reply
I fully endorse this endeavour of Bellzers Brilliant covers!
Here's one from me. I do love a cover.
Vs
Just a little more... Meat on the bone there... And that power metal style high note. 🀌🀌 Love it.
reply
When I saw Kenny Loggins I was hoping it was House on Pooh corner not that Danger Zone song again. Haha
Fun cover though.
reply
What can I say... I'm an addict 🀣🀣
Just visiting my folks and sat down to watch top gun maverick... So it was fresh on my mind.
But don't worry I'll give you two more in a moment.
reply
Did they enjoy it?
I watched Top Gun Maverick in Texas on Veterans day. That wasn't a slice of American pie but the whole pie at once, but it was a lot of fun.
reply
They're enjoying it. So far. Very nostalgic.
I loved it when I saw it in the cinema.
reply
I liked it much more at the cinema then when I saw it at home.
reply
The cinema just gives you more... It takes up so much more of your attention, their sound system is better, their visual display is better. It's just a much better experience.
reply
That's basically entering into a pie eating contest which is American pie-ception?
reply
Two more because why not!
Vs
Sorry Paul and Art but David Draiman and Disturbed repurposed this with some real power.
Fun fact, Paul Simon was interviewed after the disturbed version came out and he said. (I'll have to paraphrase). "I wish we'd done it like that, they made it how we wanted it to sound. It's their song now.". Huge huge praise from such an incredible musician.
Enjoy.
reply
Shouldn't we be saving some for future editions of this post. By the way, since btc didn't know what to name it, I think it should be called Covers: Who did it better?
reply
I got plenty more. I love a cover 😜
Covers: who did it better? Sounds good.
reply
I like it!
reply
2 great songs but still only my 3rd favorite Disturbed cover \m/
reply
Oooo spicy take?? No 3 behind Shout 2000 and land of confusion?
I'd go sound of silence, land of confusion, shout 2000. Personally. What's your thoughts?
reply
It is Shout, Land then Silence
reply
Wow. Really spicy take. I remember them releasing land of confusion and thinking it was the better version than Genesis. I stand by that, but you'd be hard pressed to beat disturbeds versions of anything. They're phenomenal musicians and Draiman is an incredible vocalist.
reply
I love this idea. I am so glad you did it.
I have a bunch but here is one I really like and since baseball season is upon us. Who did it better?
Don Henley (original)
The Ataris (cover)
reply
The ataris version of this track holds a permanent place on my playlists. Fantastic version.
reply
It is one of the few instances where I would pick the cover over the original. Oddly enough I would do the same with Don Henley and Vince Gill's cover of Sacrifice by Elton John. So while I take one away from Don, I give it back to him.
Plus I have an absolutely wild video of my daughter rocking out to the Ataris version when she was 3 with her toy guitar. She grabbed sunglasses and put them on, the whole 9 yards. It was awesome
reply
I also think Don did it better, sorry Sir Elton, but Don smashed it.
reply
I've always really liked both these versions actually \m/
reply
reply

reply
I'm gonna narrowly give my vote to the original
reply
Just for Pub. Who did it better?
reply
Sepultura gets my vote here \m/
reply
It's great but I gotta go with the original.
reply
That's +2 for Sepultura 🀘🀘

Thunder - Gimme Shelter

Damn sorry, I missed this thread yesterday was so busy all day. I've long thought a cover day should be done as my fave band, Thunder is the king of covers, IMO.
Here's one of my fave covers of theirs. Thunder doing the stones better than the stones, IMO
The Spencer Davis Groups

You're No Good is a song I enjoy, and it seems many people don't realize that the Linda Ronstadt version is not the original! I enjoy all three of these equally, and would have a hard time choosing one as my favorite. I also enjoy Van Halen's take, as well as The Swinging Blue Jeans, but I rank them a step lower than these.
Dee Dee Warwick - I like the groove the original version has, and the short guitar solo is great too. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7Cz__BzSJPY Linda Ronstadt - The one most people think is the best, at least based on YouTube views! A great overall sound. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=e0vJNp5asqc&pp=ygUdbGluZGEgcm9uc3RhZHQgeW91J3JlIG5vIGdvb2Q%3D Sarah Ross - A newer version that blends Linda's version in with both country and rap. Not for everyone, but it brings something new to the table. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0aCi7Iz4oG8&pp=ygUZc2FyYWggcm9zcyB5b3UncmUgbm8gZ29vZA%3D%3D
reply
All 3 are nice with their own style but Linda probably gets my vote
reply
Two more from me then I'll let others have some fun 🀣🀣
@BTC_Bellzer I am loving this thread. Some fantastic interpretations and homages of songs.
Vs
I might come back for more on the next episode!!! I got loads. Including some symphonic metal covers, power metal covers, rock covers, acoustic covers, male vocalists doing female songs. We're gonna have a great time!

reply
Oh well if we're doing fan stuff...
Then Virginia Tech has gotta get an honourable mention 😜 even if it's not careless whisper. They clearly had fun doing this.
reply
A's attendance is like 18 fans a game so its not THAT impressive
reply
Have had some fun times with Seether! \m/
reply
I got to see them live at Donnington in maybe 06 or 07?? They were great fun. And I always enjoyed their music.
